Tell me this wouldn't ruin your weekend!

Dog, I don't think you're reading this correctly, my frend owns the store. We've been friends for years. He told me years ago if I needed to he would watch/hold a fish for me if ever it was ever nessisary, fortunatly it was never nessisary and yes I was going to throw him $25 for the JD and GT he killed. I also bought a bag of Bio-Gold off him the day I brought the fish in and then turned around and gave it back to him to feed the fish. He didn't want to accept it from me but I put it on the tank and left. So you see it was just an unfortunate set of curcumstances. I'm gald I don't have to deal with you. We're friends and help each other out, he felt very bad it happened and somewhat embarresed so I don't see the need to beat the guy up over it, I don't think the kid should get fired either. It ended well, so speculating on another outcome as some have done is pointless. The outcome is the outcome, what's done is done, we learn and move on.

Sorry to take the alternate view of this than blaming the new guy but come on folks: stores aren't in the business of storing other people's fish for free. They're in the business of selling fish and supplies...which is what this guy did...

Should store employees have to track down a manager and ask whether a fish is being stored for someone before they're sold?

Matt

I have to disagree with you there. I've been working in fish stores for a few years now. While obviously the primary goal is to sell fish and supplies, it's not uncommon at all to hold a customer's fish for them. If nothing else, it's a great service to offer the regular customers if they ever need it. It's this sort of thing that sets local fish stores apart from the chain pet stores.

An employee should not have to track a manager down about selling a particular fish. A general rule in every fish store I've ever been inw as that fish in display tanks were not for sale. I've always taken fish that were on hold for some one and wrote "NOT FOR SALE" on the tank so there was no question about it.

Either way, I'm glad everything worked out in the end.

OK - different situation if the store owner has been your buddy for years...

Different stores have different policies on storing fish, trade ins, credit, etc.

Glad it worked out for you in the end.

I was with ya until this point. How do you expect a store of any kid to reimburse you $100 worth of credit if you payed only $15 for a steal buy? Ultimatly the fish is worth what the store prices it at, regardless how much it is worth somewhere else. No store is going to give you a $100 credit even if they sold you a fish worth that much for $15. Their going to congradulate you on your purchase and send you on your way.

I threw the number $100 out from the rump. Let me rephrase/ exemplify the matter.

Were there no emotional tie between living creatures (the original owner and the Red Devil), I do not even see how we would POSSIBLY be having this discussion dude! I think the extreme vast majority of us would tell the store owner to blow it out his (you know what) if it were inadimate merchandise that we were talking about.

Actual case in point:

Many years ago, I was into dogone near everything collectable. I have emense collections of baseball cards, comic books, stamps and coins. Toward the end of my actively collecting comic books, I began buying entire collections. One such purchase (of over four digit dollars) wound up being a steal and worth in the Overstreet price guide around $10,000.

I was informed about it from the Auction service, but was certainly (I am glad) not asked for the collection that I purchased back. Thank goodness that they fully understood and accepted their responsibility in mixing portions of the lot(s) up. They basically congratulated me on my "special" purchase and reimbursed the original owner of the lot with the minimum bid cap amount.

Wow, what a horrible thing to have happen. I'm sure you trusted that he would be fine under your friend's care. I'm so glad to hear that you are getting him back.
