Lets post pics of our teugs in one place and track growth and difference in appearence since soo many of us recently aquired them. Would be cool to see differences in each of them and maybe pick each others brains. Im especially interested in everyones feeding regime.

Great idea! I've found some information posted but would rather hear and see first hand experiences.

I picked up my teugelsi 3 weeks ago at 4.25". Measured her(?) last night at 6". I've noticed that she doesn't have the usual patterning, more solid colour through the body then patterning becomes more prevalent in the causal peduncle and tail. Not sure if that's a cb thing or just variation within the species.

A few repeat pics to cover the first 3 weeks then new ones to follow:

Feeding - She turned her nose up at Massivore and NLS TheraA for the first few days, but ate Basa and Tilapia chunks on day 3 and for the next week. She switched over to homemade gel food about a week ago and is eating well daily at lights out. Hope to transition onto pellets and fillet in a few weeks.

Great idea for a thread.

O - what do you do for gel food - you make it sound like a homemade version of Repashy?

That's where the idea originally came from - Repashy and NLS. I needed a transition and internal medication friendly food for acclimating new fish and feeding my TT eel. Figured why not try to make my own?

The current batch is a mixture of Massivore and NLS TheraA ground to powder with a mortar and pestle, then mixed to a thick paste with tilapia chunks and a wee bit of bloodworm. Knox unflavored gelatin from the baking aisle is mixed in (once cooled a bit so the raw stuff isn't cooked) then scooped into a rubber bottomed ice cube tray to set. Either kept in the fridge or frozen, depending on how fast its being consumed.

The TT, BGK, and teugelsi really like it so far. I plan to adjust the mix to encorporate more and more pellet and less bloodworm over time to get them onto the taste of pellet to ease the transition to dry.

Wow, that sounds amazing! The next time you make it could you measure what you're putting into it, even if in "ish" amounts?

I bet this would be good maybe to get fire eels on prepared food too.

I keep track of the amounts from recipe to recipe so it's already at hand. My rubber bottomed ice cube tray holds approx. 1 1/4 cups of finished food, so proportions are geared accordingly.

1/2cup chopped fish fillet
1/4 cup blood worm (decreases over time once fish are eating well)
12 ground Massivore
20 ground NLS Thera A
1/4 cup cool water
1 package Knox unflavored gelatin powder
1/4 cup hot water

Into the fridge to set, then pop out into a sandwich bag to store in fridge or freezer.

I like being able to tinker with their food. Great to add medicine, pellets, different proteins, vitamins, high carotene foods to color up, spiralina for the plecos etc etc. My TT refuses pellets, but likes the soft sponginess of this food, so she's getting some of the goodness of pellets if she realizes it or not!

I still plan to feed a variety of foods, just found this was helpful especially for hard to feed spiny eels.

One downside compared to pellets only is the nutrient density is lowered due to the water content of the gel.

Yes!! I'm super excited for this thread! I'll post some pics when I get home. Mine has packed on some serious mass here lately. She's probably grown about 2-2.5 inches since I got her in February. I currently only feed carnivore pellets and tilapia. Hoping to diversify that here soon with a few others. Every now and then they polys get a hold of one of the insects I throw in for the severums and geos

Awesome pics guys really excited to see this thread take off and compare notes.

Odd thing with mine is the 1st few days it ate like an absolute monster. Since it wont eat with the lights on or if i sees me. Wonder why.

So far its been eating mainly tilapia. Threw in some thera A this morning but no one ate while i was in the room. See what it looks like when i get home
