Teug growth thread

What other polys are appealing to you ? How easily would they be to obtain ?

While I find them all appealing, I don't want to destroy the current dynamic / esthetic of my existing setups by bulk purchasing all the polys that interest me, nor overstock to the point where I'm pushing the safe boundaries of water quality.

I've been slowly adjusting the aquascape in my 180g to create more open spaces suitable for the teugelsi. Need to keep it comfortable for the TT eel, BGK, and 5 fat Ctenopomas. TT and BGK share a floating cork log, so they're up and out of the way most of the time.

I routinely see ornates, delhezi, and senegals available. Occasionally lapradei, not much in the way of lower jaws overall. Given the above I'll likely stick to upper jaw, perhaps a nice del if available.

Self control is very hard. Not bulk purchasing worked for me in getting polys that i liked and knew i would want long term. I slowly added over the past year. Besides dmcskoolkids santa impersonation its been slow and stready....maybe a little to steady though lol

I also don't want to short change any of my fish just because I'm currently obsessed with polys. I've always wanted to grow out a full sized TT, and this one has been a labour of love for the past year.

Leaning more and more toward a medium sized upper jaw to keep teugelsi company.

Ive always like retro's but heard they are hiders. Is that a deal breaker for you ?

Not at all, just my chances of finding one outside of mail order are slim. I'm also drawn to weeskii, mokelembembe and pollis but again, it comes down to availability.

At this point I'd say delhezi are my most likely option, but am going to speak with the LFS manager about ordering in as well.

Side note - Do your Ctenos fight between themselves? How big are they and did you get them together as babies?

I got them together as a group at the 1" mark and haven't noticed any aggression beyond a bit of pushing and shoving for the choice shady spots. No injuries though, they're pretty gentle for all the talk of their predatory nature. They are around the 5" mark right now and I expect to see a bit more growth now that they're getting Massivore in their diet. Looking forward to seeing them full size, as I don't see big ones in the hobby all that often.

Trying to determine sex as I hope to spawn them someday. Read that they take a long time to sexually mature given their slow growth rate, but that by 6" they should be showing interest :)

Here's my Teug, named Andraste. Got him in December at about 2.5" and now he's about 7". He's going through a crazy growth spurt right now, I'm pretty sure he's grown over 2" in the last month.

Here he is on the day I got him, still in QT
