so the only difference between the carp. and the cyno. are just colors?

no. the spots are different size and markings around the eyes and mouth are different as well, especially with the carpintis.

I have seen 3 different variants of Herichthys Carpintis:

escondido - more turquoise in color, wormish looking marks around the mouth (like a green terror kinda)

chariel - big roundish close together spots, more gold in color than the other 2

lahillas more blue and black, smaller spots spread apart more, lower profiled than the other 2 variants

"Texas Cichild" Herichthys cyanoguttatus

...all 3 carpintis are locale differences and specific to their gathering locations (all of which are within 200 miles of each other I believe).

As you can tell from the post before mine just now, there are quite a degree of differences, even in just the carpintis, much less between the carpinitis and cyano.

nice info!

In case you haven't noticed, this thread is really old.

I noticed...but I also noticed several people with NEW questions, so I didnt see any harm in answering...same as I would if someone else asked in a new post.

plain and simple these fish are the most awsome..... and dont think so quick that they arent monsters, cause they have a monster appetite, monster attitude, and can get to be monstrous in size, either way they are very pursonable and very owner concious.....

Old or not, it still has a bunch of good info in it and serves just as well as someone making another thread on it and hoping for replies. Even if one member learns something, then it's worth the bump of an old post, imo.
word, thats why there is a search button in the first place.
