texas or jaguar...

I like the Escon idea as well. Great fish very colorful. Oh yeah, my female jag is 6" long and has red eyes.

I'm sorry I meant really, mean, psycho, crazy, orangish, reddish, evil lookig eyes. Better? Go with the jag. besides they're better than trimacs, devils, and especially the texas.

I'd go carpinte or cynaguttum( texas & gr. texas) for the tank over a managuense(jag) any day. I've kept managuense & carpinte before. I like the responsiveness of the managuense but the color changeing(according to mood) of the carpinte & cynaguttum is much more intriguing.

I want to see these jags with red eyes!! lol...

ETA: did a google image search and saw some with red eyes...I guess they grow out of it or something. I've never noticed it before!! :)

Well, Im gonna swim a bit against the current now but...

I would keep a pair of texas. I never kept texas cichlids myself, but I have kept a single jag and it wasnt a hit. Breeding pairs of any CA cichlid is way more fun. If you really want to keep a single fish, then chose a midas or trimac, alot more personal than a jag when kept alone.

I would still go with the texas option for that tank, even though I like jags better. There is no way I would stuff my Jag into a 75....he is just too much fish for a tank of that size

I have both Texas and Jags and I love'em both, both are really cool fish I figure you can't go wrong either way. For me I would go with what is harder to come by ,here Jags were harder to get at 1st no I have a hard time finding Texas. I would think a pair of Texas would do fine in a 75 and just 1 Jag might not be as much fun but like I said earlier you can't lose with your choice. Good luck on choosing :)

There would be a size issue with the Jags.My 75 is 4 foot long, according to my books on fish "Tank Busters" and "Dr. Axlerods's Atlas of Aquarium Fishes" Jags grow to 2 foot long.
So a full grown Jag would be able to look out one end of the tank, then turn and be looking out the other end.

I would go with a smaller fish! My jags are just babies and they are cool, but I have had some experience with Texas, and they are cool too. You could even consider a Jack or 2. They are way pretty!

Rallys man I have the two juv Jags and they both have red eyes, according to my book they will have red eyes untill they begin to mature. I will point out the eye color does change with the mood of the fish, ie aggressive or passive behavior. I feel my eyes turn red depending on my mood too! LOL
