The beginning of the end...

I wish people would do their research before putting stupid accusations. Especially with the general offence against all things slithery or slimy...
Its biased, inherent nonsense.

Exactly. The worst part about it is that many scientists have reviewed the report and "evidence," and they found it to be a ton of bad science with some parts even being made up or given standard deviations that were out of this world.

Any scientist pushing for this is one: A nut, two: Scientist in name, three:with a hidden agenda. Well, I don't think there's an option. The next one and the herp community must stand strong against it.

Yes, we must stand strong against this ban and any future bans; constant vigilance is necessary. This ban's not going to stop the trade and will make the number of python's released only increase because people will have no one to sell them to should they become disinterested with them or if they get too big for them.

I would support a mandatory micro-chipping of all pets that can be micro-chipped that way that the owner could be held accountable should a pet be lost or purposely released and then found by someone else. This law would apply to all animals ranging from dogs to cats to snakes to large fish; no one should be releasing any animal into the wild rather they should either find it a new home or have it euthanized (or do it themselves), simple as that.

So are these animals gonna be 100% illegal or just the import of them?... what happens to existing Snakes already in the states?

It ridiculous to outright ban for any sort of animal or to require the spaying/neutering of some animals (reptiles, amphibians, etc.); it's unnecessary and doesn't help conservation in most cases.

I would say that cats and dogs should all be spayed/neutered and tightly controlled because of the enormous negative effect that they have on the environment not to mention the fatalities that they cause; the number of unwanted/accidental young produced yearly is quite high and further contributes tl damaging the environment when they are released. The effect from large snakes is miniscule in comparison to the cute & cuddly destroyers of nature some people refer to as "normal pets," and their ability to reproduce and take over is pretty terrible when compared to the birth rate of dogs and cats.

:iagree:

Good thing that the article wasn't biased at all. Thats sarcasm by the way.

"Reptile breeders, dealers, researchers and exhibitors also can continue operating under a separate permit program, as long as they agree to strict storage and transport rules."
Just what a small-scale rescue and educational program such as myself needs... more friggin fees and permits! <sarcasm>
I can see myself being flooded with re-home requests for these animals and nowhere to send them. We will see an increase in the number of "released pets" and quite likely MORE species soon added to the restricted list. It's one more step towards total abolishment of pet ownership. The very reasons they give for banning these species could just as easily apply to animals such as cats, dogs, horses, parrots, and fish. This is a sad day in the herp community.
As an educator who travels with some of the very animals described, I am outraged that this proposed ban made it so far, we've been fighting it so long and it's very disheartening that this has come to pass. I will be forced to withdraw many of my educational programs from neighboring states due to the requirements that this ban imposes, as well as find another vet (my regular vet is 15 minutes away across state lines, the nearest other one in my state is over an hour away)
just sad, upsetting, and frustrating that this happened.
I fear that it will not be stopping at "pythons" I hope everyone cherishes and fights for the right to keep all their other pets because we WILL see more of these proposed bans pop up in the near future now that this one is passing.
