The biggest Arowana that you saw in tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
2.5 feet is the biggest one I saw. buddy owned it for a while and had it in a 125. gave it to the petstore and they kept it in a 90. The thing wouldn't stop growing no matter what.

Wasn't injured or "ugly" as some aros. very nice fish. Petstore lost power on night and it died though :(

Hello,

OK, I asked this question because every time when we are talking about preparing tank for a "adult" Arowana... we always talking about twice long as Arowana - minimum 74"... etc... I think that this is wrong... and in my opinion to prepare tank for any fish we should remember about what kind of fish is Arowana, how he gain food (hunts for food) and how he is aggressive, NOT only how long the fish can be.

I have two black Arowana. One is almost 20" and second 16". Always when I'm watching my fishes (sometimes more than hour), I conclude that my tank should have minimum 120 in. long and 40" wide; even when the maximum size the fish in tank can be 30".

This is only because of my own observation, very carefully observation.

What do you think about it ?

Who is "we"? Any arowana should be in a tank that is minimum 3x the aro's length and a width/depth at least equal to the aro's length.

i have seen a silver aro bordering on 5 feet. it was in a private collection, in a tank probably 30,000 gallons. the owner said it was in it's twenties. it died a few months ago, and i didn't get any pics:( i was too busy staring at the 12 foot 'pima.
I can't tell if you're joking or just a terrible liar...

Sorry, You're right... I mean 8 I put 6 like for Asian Arowana.

But this is not a point... I mean not what I was trying to say...

What do you think Brian, you have a nice tank and big Arowana. Do you think that even 8 is not too less for that kind of fish ?

Well I couldn't imagine keeping them in anything smaller. Bigger would be nice, but then there is what is practical for the home aquarium. I guess if mine ever get to over 36" I have to look into building a pond in the basement for them.

no joke, the window was 6 feet long, and the aro came up right next to it, and filled up almost almost all of the window. it was huge, at least 4 and a half feet, probably more. but it also was hideous! it had extended lower jaw, downgaze, and torn fins:( i felt sorry for it. he said it was wildcaught and was given to him at 2 feet. he wanted to see how big he could get it, so he just put it strait into his big tank and handfed it lots of foods, including pellets, lizards, worms, shrimp, frogs, and lots more.
