The general public and thier funny fish keeping setups and ways.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was going to say I don't spend that much time. I have currently 5 tank all 29 to 30 gals.
Just changing the water out in a 5 gal bucket. 2 drains per tank 2 refils. that is a total of 20 trips total. give each tank drain and fill 2 minutes it is 40 minutes.

Damn I do spend some time with my tanks. Oh wait forgot cleaning the glass of algae during the week. maybe 50 minutes.

God times... Good times

i don't consider watching fish as spending time working on my tank but i guess it can get up toward 35-40 minutes a day depending on the tank size and what you're feeding

Lets see. Morning turn on lights (that need to be turned on), top off any evaporation, feed 4 tanks - 15 minutes.

Night - Top off evaporation, empty de-humidifier, feed. watch fish. Perform water changes (every third day) - check filters, perform maintenance - 15-35 mins

A lot of evap overnight? My saltwater tank is bad, but it's got a 175 MH over it... Forgot to mention my de-humidifier, but I only empty it every 3 days... Do all your WCs on same day?

I agree with the above thread... LFS that encourage the buying of species that a "20 gal" can accomodate, like Balas....:screwy::screwy::screwy:

I don't think you find your way on here because you want to make a 1,000 oscar tank as your first investment. People tend to join forums after they have some experience and realize the value of bouncing ideas and the fact that at best aquarium keeping is a very muddy science. While I'm sure people join up simply for help with projects like a DIY build, that is not the general public. The general public thinks a tank cycling is some kinda bike joke.

There is deffinately alot of people who are one step above general public and two steps down from true enthusiasts. The guys that keep stocking fish they know they can't keep but they subconciously expect them to die so they don't care if it gets 1 meter long. They just keep buying irridescent sharks, one after the other to plop in that 30 gallon tank.

do your typical question search on google and i bet you mfk is within the top 5 for most searches. you want to seek more help, you've gotta sign up. i believe most members begin that way but i could be wrong.

i'm not talking regular or semi regular visitors. i think the amount of people who join for a short period of time is far greater then the regular visitors.

I do all my water changes on the same day. I used to stagger them, but found that I quickly forgot which tanks I changed when. I don't run huge set ups, my biggest being 75 gallons, so it's manageable.

I do get a lot of evap to my crazy standards (mere millimeters) - yes I do have a problem. :)

wow I am for sure a bad keeper then. I have an auto timer for all my lights...and i feed the fish in the AM before work, which takes all of 5 seconds. I come home feed my fish, takes another 5 seconds...and the lights automatically go off at 730....watching my fish doesnt count.

I only check filters when flow changes...and maitenance for me is about 10 swipes of the magnetic glass cleaner.

I wouldn't say your a bad keeper at all. If you have maintained your fish over a long period of time, i'm sure you know what you are doing.
