what about farm raised talipia like in that episode of dirty jobs? They had them cleaning up feces

they only eat about 40% of the poop and most likely need to be fed afterwards

after watching that episode tilapia never tasted the same:screwy:

I still have an issue with that episode. If you starve a fish long enough, I'm sure they'll all eat feces just to try and get something to eat. I seriously doubt tilapia go around looking to eat feces in the wild.

Are these the people on reality tv shows whose tanks are about 4" short of being filled

I was going to say I don't spend that much time. I have currently 5 tank all 29 to 30 gals.
Just changing the water out in a 5 gal bucket. 2 drains per tank 2 refils. that is a total of 20 trips total. give each tank drain and fill 2 minutes it is 40 minutes.

Damn I do spend some time with my tanks. Oh wait forgot cleaning the glass of algae during the week. maybe 50 minutes.

God times... Good times

I promise I'm not sarcastic when I say this, but if you buy more buckets, it's a whole lot easier. Set them up side by side. When one fills, move the syphon to the other. While they're filling up with tank water, run water into your "refill" buckets, dechlorinate, and you're good to go.

I can get two 55g's done in 20 minutes.

I spend about 2-3 hours /night 4 nights a week on water changes. On average, it's 10-12 tanks/night. Tank sizes vary from 5g to 90g.

Feeding is another matter. On frozen food/live food nights, it's a 45 minute process. On flake nights, it's around 30 minutes. I have different mixes for different species. In fact I have 7 different mixes in 7 different bags.

Funny part is, I have 10 "base feed" bags to start with that I make my mixes from.

you're a damn sight more efficient then me then, i've only got a 55-65g and it takes me probably close to 2 hours to do a 50% water change (once a week) as well as clean the filter and glass. (tanks next to a window though, i know noob mistake, so i prolly spend about 30 minutes of that scrubbing the glass with a sponge...)

I dunno, I like having my tanks close enough to a window that I can reach the python to drain them out the window instead of carrying buckets. I don't mind cleaning the algae though.

lol i'm like 2 stories above ground (high-set queenslander here) so running water out the windows a bit difficult with only me doing it. I really need to invest in a magnetic glass cleaner, that way it'd be easy to stay on top of my algae problem.
