I hear you, Bro. If you haven't done so, you may want to keep that tank about 75% full, if possible, until this gets resolved
If it stretches any more then I'd get those fish in a big plastic garbage can or a kiddy pool with your filters hooked up to it.

Don't think there's any Kmart in the UK, and I've never seen any tubs any near that big at the Kmarts around me......bummer

Why are you playing with fire ? It is obvious that it will fail - why put yourself through a flood, and having to scramble to save the fish flopping on the floor? Ratcheting it is only adding even more pressure on the tank.
Prevention is the best way to go.

Ya I wouldn't trust ratchets. Just move the fish, get the tank replaced or repair it. You'll have a massive headache if that busts
TBH I think the way you've strapped it is a waste of time. I'd be far more concerned with the front panel cracking if it is 1.5mm proud in the centre and flush at the ends (if I've understood your problem correctly?). I look at putting a big sash clamp underneath the tank with blocks of wood against the glass to brace it and stop the panel bending any more.
I've got a few bubbles in the black silicone in the centre of the bottom seam of my 500g tank, but I marked them before filling up the tank and they haven't grown in nearly two years, touch wood. I'm very glad I went for 15mm glass and a safety factor of 3.8 as it gives plenty of allowance for such defects!

break the tank down and start building a bigger diy plywood build you can build it big!
use the front and back panel as 2 viewing panels on the front and the side panels for
each sides of the plywood build. since you have the glass already you wont spend
much on everything else.
