then Kieth at Windsor Aquatics replyed with this what an F'ing legend;

Hello Justin,

I've forwarded an email which ND apparently sent to you this afternoon. They seem to think that there isn't an issue with the tank, as you can see from their email. I don't agree with their statement, and think that the tank needs to be put right. To that end, I am prepared to have a new tank built and delivered to you; this really would be the quickest solution, rather than attempting to repair the original one. If a repair or re-sealing was done, the tank would need to stank for 10 days before it could be used, whereas if I have a new tank built it can stand in the workshop until the silicone is fully cured and then brought out to you. That way you can use it as soon as you get it.

I would have liked to come out to see the tank but unfortunately I go into hospital the middle of next week for an operation and will be out of action for a while. Let me know your thoughts please

Kind Regards,

Keith

Just read this thread and sorry about to hear this. If I read correctly your tank is 7' in length. How many cross braces do they have on the presumably eurobrace? Also, just curious why you had the cross brace lowered? I'm not suggesting this had anything to do with your issues, but wanted to understand the design.

So to clarify, Windsor is going to replace your tank with a new one at no charge correct if you should choose that route?

yep free... it is 7ft long, 34 inches front to back and 24 inches deep. there's a 4 inch brace all the way around the top then a single 8 inch brace in the centre. the bottom is a double layer of 10mm with the top layer sitting within the side panes. i had the bracing raised not lowered, it is 10mm down from the top lip so i could get more water in, most tanks have it lower and take your top 3-4 inches of tank space.... besides thinking about it the problems at the bottom so i think this is irrelevant?

Very happy to hear that :)

thanks, still gonna be a massive headache though, the bare glass tank is 195kg and it has to go out a window, you can bet its gonna be harder to get out than in too, took 6 people lastime and it was HARD, more the fact 34 inches is too big to get your arms round so just a corner or edge each = 33kgs on ya finger tips!

Wow mate that's great news even if you need hired help to get it in and out the gaff lol :D a new tanks the best outcome though , great customer service from at least one company , glad your problems nearly solved mate and at no cost :thumbup::)

Yup, as mentioned, I was not implying they are related just to understand how other builders design it. My tank is 72"x30x28, and in addition to 4" eurobracing top and bottom, they have three 4" braces across. That may be due to the height of the tank and that I needed glass covers put on. they were cautious about bowing so I didn't want to argue :-)

Do the builders happen to use glass suction w/pumps when the delivered the first time? My builder let me use them with 4 guys and I can say it was very useful to have.

Just a friendly suggestion, I had a tank fall apart on me in an upstairs apartment a few years back. Old school glass 150 gallon; all but one side were good, instead of caring the tank out complete I just cut the panels apart. So just take a razor blade cut through all of the silicone and remove the tank panel by panel. Either way the tank will need to be disassembled so at that point it makes no difference but it will make your moving job a lot easier. :)
