the Great Jack Controvery

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wasn't aware of a "Great Controversey" they are all just variants of the same species. Is the controversey only as to weather EBJD and PBJD should be considered seperate variants with in the species? I don't know that much about them, can you breed for Powder blue as opposed to Electric blue or is it that some individuals within a batch of fry come out lighter than others? If you could breed specifically for one as opposed to the other then considering it another variant might not be unreasonable. If it just the luck of the draw then thay are just lighter colored EBJDs IMO.

I don't think it's worth being threatened over, what's the big deal? Yeah, who threatened you over this?

I'm still confused.

Who threatened you...and about what?

Is anyone arguing that EBJDs are a different species...or (naturally occurring) varient of R. octofasciata?

Matt

Exactly, it was a PM situation being handled by Moderators, so that's that. The argument is that "PowderBlue" are just regular Jacks

Ya the "Vontehillo" controversy was whether or not the location existed if I remember correctly.

A powder blue mated with a powder blue would produce 100% powder blue offspring if the allele is homozygous recessive. Just like an EBJD x EBJD. Here's a link that will explain how it works: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punnett_square

Keyword here is "IF" the allele exist for Powder Blue, or are Powder Blues just colored different because of food, environment, etc. In my experience the Powder Blue have looked different from the Regular Jacks in the same food, environment, situations, etc...and its not just one out of a big group of frys but many.

Yeah thats the question for myself as well. Powder Blues look like EBJD when little but when they grow they lose the OVERALL electric and becomes thick speckles that are light blue. This gave me the IMPRESSION that PB and EB are perhaps 2 different variants that should keep the names Powder and Electric. The argument is that some people HATE the word Powder Blue because they dont exist and are just stressed out regular Jacks.

Now also I want to hear from someone who has bred Powder and Powder: What are the % of Powders, Regulars, and/or Electric (if indeed its true, some people say PB are same as EB).

Like said, the situation is being handled by the Moderators, but it is obvious by reading the post and replies as to who the person was, doing the threatening and insulting.

Seems like arguing over whether a dark orange mickey mouse platy and a lighter orange mickey mouse platy should be called different things...

They're all made up names... call them what you want!

"powder blue" is a double mutant (blue and gold together).

Which part of this did you not understand?

I am In the "color morf Camp"

Calihawk - can you post an example of what you are calling a Powder Blue vs an Electric Blue?

Yes gotta give me til Friday, I work fulltime and school fulltime...so I can throw in my 2 cents on here but to get pics and gather evidence takes free time.

Im loaded with homework.

They were about 8 total at the LFS around 1" and they all looked like this when small. Other members on here from Fresno can testify to it too.

As they got to be 2.5-3" they lost the OVERALL whiteness/Electric and are now speckles. So if the Powder have Electric gene as well then my pair of Powder and Blue Gene should have some Electric babies....here it is again, IF.
