Ummm what makes you say that?
Couple reasons.
1. Asia is not buying them all up like people are saying they are. They are showing up every where now on any list. A friend got another list today, $700 was the cost to the wholesaler and this guy is way down the line from the importer. Their price to retailer was $900, figure retail to be around $1200. Yeah that is ALOT considering we can get CB for that price (I would if I was paying $1200). We have two EXCELLENT vendors here on MFK that typically do not deal with rays that are offering WC leos with prices probably based on the model I gave above. Not to disrespect these vendors as Ive dealt with all of them and they are nothing short of fantastic, but these guys arent some mega company spending tons of money a year on fish and the fact they can get them says ALOT. Believe me when I say that an exporter would rather sell $100,000 of bread and butter fish to a big importer year in and year out and hook him up with a few rays then sell $10,000 to some one just wanting rays and who orders a few boxes a year.
2. The current 5,000 quota is for '08. There is a SOLID chance another 5,000 will be released in '09. Thats 10,000 leos in about a year. Obviously Im not dumb enough to say that exactly 10,000 will come out but give or take a few thousand either way. That is is still ALOT of rays. Will the market for leos really suppport 12 MILLION dollars of rays in a year? I would be SHOCKED if so.
3. Global economy.
4. The ban itself caused the frenzy. If there never was a ban would the demand be so high? I think not. The demand may not go down much, but when you greatly increase the supply, what happens?
People can pay what ever they want. I'm going to sit back and watch for awhile. Who knows I could be wrong and another ban will be put in place and the price shoots up even more....
