This thread is exactly why the captive breeding of the freshwater rays needs to expand. With CITES looking at the situation, or at least trying to, quotas may be a thing of the past, and it doesn't sound like the quotas are meeting demand in any meaningful way.

Now is not season to get the stingrays.. Even with the massive export.... The rain season started to soon this year (the weather is crazy in Brazil ) and most of the fishermans are having difficult to get any ray, even a simple leopoldi... To get worse the rays in the beginning of the rain season are weak... So die really easy( most of the black rays like P14, leo and henleis are dying a couple of days after coming to the trades here in Brazil). And to tell the truth most companys haven't even make any exportation... I know I friend that he is one of the most important pleco exporter(probably the most) im Brazil, and he export rays as well, and he didn't send any rays, and probably are going to wait a couple of months to make the first exportation.... Now is the ending of the year.... People says that After Christmas, Brazil only work after Carnaval(in the end of february) so probably in may or june, after a few exportation and in the end of the rain season things are going to be better, I can assure you..
