The insanity has begun... My 345 SA/CA Build thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I really love this whole set up as well as your adventure. It just looks...............fantastic!

WOW.... That set up is totally awesome!... you got the whole shabang!!!

Thanks for all the compliments and comments everyone, I do appreciate it :)

...and no, I got caught up like always on other stuff around the house and have yet to put the removable finishing panels on. :shakehead The good news is I know my wife will make me get it done before Christmas so I have high hopes!

Unfortunately I lost my Arowana at the end of Aug. to a jump, she was 22" and stronger than I thought, just not enough weight on the 4' glass tops. I have since decided not to replace her with another Arow but to make the tank even more of a SA/CA cichlid community (pretty much what it was before).

Current and final (pending 2 or 3 more spotted silver dollars) stock list is now:

3x Oscars: one tiger, one albino, one lutino
1x Common Pleco
3x Spotted Silver Dollars
1x Rotkeil Severum
1x Turquoise Severum
1x Firemouth
1x BGK
1x Marbled Angel
1x Convict
1x Senegal Bichir
1x Nicaraguan Cichlid
1x Texas Cichlid
2x Blue Acara (Pair)
1x hoplarchus psittacus (True Parrot)
1x Flagtail Prochilous

... no ponds planned anytime soon :(

Thanks again!

I might have missed it somewhere, but I never saw how many gallons it is.. Man if I had that setup, I would have one male marble motoro in with like three females, and make some money!!!

Entering the dimensions online into an aquarium calculator it reads 346.3 but its a flat back hexagon tank, so I'm sure the gallon-age is cut down a little bit. To be honest I'm not quite sure what it really measures out to, so I just call it 345.

As far as the Motoro Ray's go I'd love to have one but living in Texas means that plan is a no go. :(

Random tank shot!

I couldn't help it, Raymond, my 1 year old loves watching the tank and I had to snap a pic of him today! I'm glad I got to respond to this thread as it gives me a shameless opportunity to post this picture. :grinno:

How bad is the evaporation with the water fall? Managable or are you replacing water daily?

Not bad at all, I never see the water line between my weekly w/c as long as I fill to the lid when filling up (about half way up the trim). I was worried at first when setting it up that I would have to top off during the week but that's not the case.

Ok great, thats a similar situation I have with one of my tanks.....Helps remind me to stay up on my water changes....if I start seeing the water line then I know Im behind and need to get it done

x2 I have an "open" aquarium as well on my 90g. I hardly ever do see the water evaporate but I do weekly water changes so it's hardly noticable.

- Nice update!
