I completly agree, and that is why you won't see me drive one. My argument is that you cannot try and legislate that responsibility. Just because an administration may think it's "right" doesn't mean it should pass laws to tell it's people how much of it they can use. Some gov's may do that, but if we're going to continue to call ourselves a free country, we shouldn't.
I believe that is what set's us apart, we our a country for the people by the people. And with that comes that if the people wants to waste gas and drive big cars, they have the RIGHT to do so, I can't tell them that they aren't allowed to. Untill the people want gas retrictions, or want to take it upon themselves to change, then the gov should not try and enforce it, because then the gov is not doing what it's people want, and thats not democratic.

but how do you balance one persons rights to drive a large car like that against someones right to live in a less poluted world ?

frasertheking... What makes you think you have the right to live in a less polluted world? It would be interesting to hear all of the rights you think you have, and why you have them. The world is much bigger than the EU. Some countries could care less about pollution and continue to flood our markets with cheap products we are so willing to consume. Check out China's pollution policys and standards. Pollution is such an issue in China that they are even halting production factories around Beijing for a couple months prior to the summer Olympics to try to reduce pollution and give the world a good impression.

I enjoy the right to drive whatever I want!!!!
I also enjoy the right to own guns!!!!

The US has more cars/people ratio than anybody but you want other countries to use less energy?

Wow. You ready to give up your car XR? You ready to have the government take it away from you?

It may not stay that way, that's my point. 1.3 billion people in China, a nation that is now modernizing. they could easily pass us in this catergory. (U.S population- 300 mil)

Being an american that owns 3 cars i shouldn't be the one to talk though, i will adimit this.

If China keeps increasing productions of cars like they are doing, i will want this to be put into effect. And the sonner the better IMO.

If that is the case, you do what you can to improve your living conditions, and the health of your environment, and at the same time influence your neighbor with your actions and lead by example, and if your ideal is a good and valid one it will spread, and if it isn't, you have to re-examine what you think is "right".

It is just interesting to me that so many people want to elect officials who they think will be tougher on environmental health, and believe that in doing so their gas prices (or our dependence) will go down, but how do you think this type of legilastion will come into effect? I'll tell you, by creating new agencies for world health, and new agencies for oil independence, and new agencies to enforce restrictions on your usage, and so on.
Who is going to pay for this?

the goverment has to increase oil taxes on the oil company's selling to the U.S, this won't happen until the oil guys are out of the white house. And i personally see anything getting better with the 2 new candidates.

ethier way according to that one pyshic they'll both die in office

assassination
and cancer.

How are you going to tax the person sell you something? This is just silly. The reality is that the rest of the world wants that oil and will pay the high price.

This is the problem. If you have an 401K or 403b or other plan. If you have a savings account or keep money in a money market or bank you are the owner of oil companies. How is punishing your investment going to help you. Short little relief in exchange for large retirement returns.

The American people have become to depend. The government needs to remove resrtictions. We are currently making 23 different kinds of gas to run our cars. If we stop government from regulation the emissions we would fix this problem.

W. Bush is not an owner of an Oil company. In fact the oil companies he started tanked when he was young. He went into politics instead.

Being a VP of company does make you the sole reper of the profits. He has a salary. If he makes too much money he is taxed extra for it. Why punish him for being successful. Obama's wife got a raise of 300,000 dollars for her job after her husband became a senator. Should we punish him and her for being paid so much. No... stop punish people who are successful. Communism failed because there was not reason to work hard and succeed. Remove that aspect from capitalism and we will fall.

Many have been brain washed by the media to think that it is wrong to do well, and that the American economy is in the crapper. I would have to disagree. The trouble is many people over extend themselves and were living outside their means. The market has corrected itself.

I am so tired of it.

Also, this will part is touchy, but here goes.

I grew up in Flint Michigan and have felt the reality of racism and poverty.

I am however upset that no one in the Media will question Obama on his views. I would never vote for him. He is way off base. He surrounds himself with people who teach intolerance, and who use illegal money to support his campaign, but everyone goes out of their way to say he had nothing to do with it. It is total crap! If you question his ability it is racist. It is rather sad that people can not follow the Dream of Martin Luther King Jr. who said the one day his children will be judged by their character and no the color of their skin. Yet everyone is so happy that the first African American will run for President. Which he is NOT. If we judge his record he refuses to work with the other party, Yet preaches that he will change Washington. Yet he has not changed it his first 6 years. He is a either follow me or you are wrong. If he is elected he will butt heads with the Congress so much and nothing will get accomplished. It is the same with Clinton. People say she can not get elect since she is a women and that it is unfair. That America is not made progress because of this. Yet her views are also so far left that most of her party does not follow her.

It is a scary time in America. The republican party is also in the wrong direction. They have choosen a man to lead them who a few years ago was thinking of leaving and joining the Democrat party.

The powers have given us three Socialist to lead the free world. Lets just hope we can survive this next four years. You thinks are screwed up now, just wait!

I think you make good points about the state of the Republican party, unfortunately. It really stinks because since there is no threat now for McCain on the right, he'll just slide as left as he can until the election to grab democrat votes.

Mike brought up a good point which i would like to elaborate on a little from my thinking.

The party system in the USA has a large flaw which is the crazy amount of money spent by the nominees. If you want to run for office you have to have enough money to power a large campaign, and while this does mean that the nominee will have to be successfull, you always get those people that make their fortune thanks to successful parents.

So then you have enough money from BS fundraisers, not to mention money from independed companies in order to support what they like, to run for office, whats next? Well you have to have the support of a party or you are screwed unbelievebly in the election. If you don't have the support of the democratic or republican party you are F'd in the A. If you support the 2nd ammendment AND you are pro-choice you are pretty much caught in the middle and you won't get the presidential nomination of your party or you will have to lie to the public until you can MAYBE make it in office, which means you just decieved them.

I know i didn't go anywhere near to as in-depth as i wanted to on my opinions on this, but its around 1:30 and i'm a tired 16 year old so take if for what you will.

This pretty much forces candidates to pick what issue they believe strongest in and join that party. Say if they
