the wels is extremely aggressive at night and the piraiba is one of the most placid catfish i've ever owned the piraiba has grown a little bit faster but not by much

They were bought to the UK over a 100 years ago but became an invasive species

Well yes, main range is from France in a belt over to russia, but some do live a bit north or south of this range.

They included other cats from Silurus. This is the range of Silurus glanis:

Red is native, blue is coastal water concurrences and orange is where it has been introduced.

The fish from from Greece are Silurus aristotelis; the eastern European (Russian) and western Asian countries in your list are Silurus soldatovi. The fish from China and other eastern Asian countries are Silurus asotus. There are many other fish from Silurus that are found throughout Eurasia, but these three, plus Silurus biwaensis, are the only ones that could be considered 'Wels' with the size that they can achieve. Even then, only S. soldatovi truly approaches S. glanis in size.
