If you're replacing the rotor be sure to replace the cap as well. The point of contact on the rotor and the cap will degrade over time, and if a new surface of one meets the old surface of the other it will arc and burn it prematurely. Usually the rotor will just pull off after you get the cap off, but mark everything and make sure you put it back exactly like it came apart.

lol, i think that's a 'man' thing.. usually when i hear a man say it's a spark problem the first thing i check is fuel.. and vice versa.. especially if it's the customer.

I got worse after my ASE certification. It's expired now, so I should be better haha

lol.. a couple of mine are out of date.. i should go renew them, but i'm lazy, it's not going to change how much i get paid where i work now.. and i think the company will only reimburse me if they are required ASE tests for my smog license. so i'll have to wait to take the renewal tests till my A6 and A8 expire.. whenever that is.. lol.

Whoa whats this!?!?! LOL

the top pic is your distributor cap, the bottom pic is your distributor rotor. they should always be replaced together as rally pointed out. the autoparts store will sell them to you individually. Put the new ones back on EXACTLY the way you took those off.. do NOT mix up the wires, and make sure the rotor faces EXACTLY the same direction when you put the new one on.

remember what i said about that wire, it'll be a dealer only item and should be replaced by your mechanic.. that is an operation that will require a little expertise.

yea, judging by that rotor you need to replace those as well as the wires. Check your vacuum lines too. Looks like one of them might be taped up. If you have a vacuum line off, as well as bad connections from your cap and rotor, you might pay for your parts with gas savings in a short amount of time.

edit:

looks like part of the rotor is missing or just burned............. that could have been why the plugs looked the way they did. Now I'm also guessing that the contacts in the cap are terrible too.

Theirs a wire in the middle of that? oh damn it. I live in the middle of knowwhere, how am i suppost to get the car anywhere like this?

Stuff I'm doing tommorow:
Putting old spark plugs back in
picking up/installing new wires
picking up/installing new dist cap
wondering about the rotor.... Like I think I could do it myself right?
