i must say, this is the absolute worst case of neglect and overstocking ive ever seen.

was just at my LFS and some guy brings in:
4 pacu. all of which are over 12" and one appears to be a black.
about 6 oscars. all 5-8/9" i would say
a common pleco. well over 12", maybe even pushing 18"
and a SA gar, around 8-10"

the kid asks the guy "wow, you must have had a big tank" to which this sad excuse replies "yea, i have a 55 gallon tank":WHOA:

wait. did this guy ACTUALLY say 55g??? yes, yes he did.:eek::eek:the kid had an absolute look of horror on his face, the likes of which are generally reserved for finding out tragic news.

needless to say, i had to walk out of the store, as i felt my mouth getting ready to open and not stop. its an absolute wonder how ANY of those fish survived living to that size in a 55g. either that, or i honestly hope that was some sick, sad joke.

its a good thing the guys havent picked up my 3 pacu yet, or id have taken a few these guys home and showed them what swimming room is. my 250 would be like paradise.

A buddy of mines son (lives w/his mom) has a 10g with a 10 inch O & a 15 (yes 15) inch Plecko.. the tank also has a bunch of decorations & some other fish, would be O food, but the poor thing can barely move let along catch the feeders.

its just sad....

I'll get the Bushmaster, y'all ready?

Its what most sherrif departments use, I got mine at the last gun show for 600 instead of 1200.

A little overkill don'tcha think? save that for adults with that kinda tank setup.

Just find the kid a used 55g and give it to him, it's an improvement and educate him, just maybe he'll get the idea and become an MFK'er.

This is what two 15" pacu, 4 large oscars and 2 large pleco look like in a 55 gallon tank (these are our rescued fish and the tank they were in) The pacu couldn't even turn around without their head and tail hitting the tank walls.

One oscar died from HITH, the two pleco died. Lest anyone thinks they are still in such horrendous living conditions, we now have the runt oscar (who was beaten up by the other two oscars) in the old 55 g. This is the current home for the other four
