I'm guessing those pacu are well over 15" now. They dwarf the 2 O's. Re: the original post I can't even imagine those fish fitting in a 55, never mind living/swimming in it. Pacu just don't belong at the chains and average LFS, it's a very very tiny percentage of fishkeepers who can actually house an adult.
this is the exact reason pacu should not be sold as an aquarium fish. atleast without needing some kind of special order like you would alot of other true monsters, being readily available has killed these guys (literally)
as much as i love them, most people, including myself now (thanks to a pain in the butt wife) cant properly house them. i feel bad enough confining one 17" pacu to a 250
why start a hobby you cant afford???????????? a 55 gallon complete set up is 150 bucks!!!!!!! if you dont have any money buying a fish is not a smart idea!!!!! welfare does not supply fishfood or water changes im sorry for the situation but hey he could always trade the fish back in but that would be like responsible or something
that i fking sick
bot on another hand where do u shop if i could find a 55 gal comp setup i wouls sht myself something like that hear is 2-4 hundred at least
my 46 gal tank alone was 190 and that was cheapest i could find
At least the guy on Craigslist was responsible enough to try to correct his mistake. He could be asking for a 20 or 29. Instead he is looking for a 55. Which IMO is the bear min. for an oscar by itself.
I think there's a similar thing going on with one of my friend's coworkers. The fish just keep dying one by one and he just won't get a BIGGER TANK... poor oscar. I want to adopt him.
Do you think there was any kind of sarcasm involved in this guy's response? I can't seriously believe this was his setup. The filtration would have to be INSANE. I can't see this being serious.
I remember having gold fish as a kid, about 4 or 5, in a 10 gallon tank. We changed ALL of their water, had NO substrate, only and air stone, and even used WINDEX when cleaning their tank. I had those fish for a few years I think, before they died of heat while we were on vacation. Our neighbor left their DIY light strip (old. . . it got very hot) on and they died
Nevertheless, the fish we kept somehow lived long and grew kind of large (for a 10 gallon. . . ) But then again, we didn't know any better at the time. At the present time, I'm amazed at how long they lived. . . Some noobs just get lucky, I guess. Maybe the kid at the LFs with the "55 gallon tank" full of monsters was lucky, somehow.. .
