i must say, this is the absolute worst case of neglect and overstocking ive ever seen.

was just at my LFS and some guy brings in:
4 pacu. all of which are over 12" and one appears to be a black.
about 6 oscars. all 5-8/9" i would say
a common pleco. well over 12", maybe even pushing 18"
and a SA gar, around 8-10"

the kid asks the guy "wow, you must have had a big tank" to which this sad excuse replies "yea, i have a 55 gallon tank":WHOA:

wait. did this guy ACTUALLY say 55g??? yes, yes he did.:eek::eek:the kid had an absolute look of horror on his face, the likes of which are generally reserved for finding out tragic news.

needless to say, i had to walk out of the store, as i felt my mouth getting ready to open and not stop. its an absolute wonder how ANY of those fish survived living to that size in a 55g. either that, or i honestly hope that was some sick, sad joke.

its a good thing the guys havent picked up my 3 pacu yet, or id have taken a few these guys home and showed them what swimming room is. my 250 would be like paradise.

Lets lock him in the closet with 10 people for a year or two and we will see how he likes it

Oh God, if I had a dime for every time I asked someone how big their tank was and had them smugly reply "50 gallons"...

I work at Petsmart. Let it be known that I will not rest until Petsmart stops selling pacu or starts carrying 300g tanks.

disturbing. at least he got rid of them

Mine has to be with me ending up with a softshell turtle,

he was in a very dirty tank the front coverd in muck right in the corner / end of the LFS tanks wedged between the frozen food cabinet and wall.

i saw the turtle i didnt know what type as there was no sticker on the front of the tank but it didnt look too healthy

i asked the woman working in the shop an she said that the turtles had been sold 3 WEEKS AGO !!!! she had no idea there was anything in that tank, it had no food or anything

so this poor little turtle had not eaten or seen much day light for 3full weeks so i just handed over £5 an took him home an now he has almost trippled in size.

and he's the only fish / reptile to have a name in my tank :) " speedy "

Have you ever noticed that people overstock monster tanks alot? Mabye it's because they're so addicting :P

To learn about big tank and trop pond construction. I have a Leiarius and a baby oscar. Three foot wide tank or trop pond is the way to go with those if I possibly can...

Still reading and it's very very good here. Loads of ideas that I had not thought of.:)
