The Most EVIL CICHLID on the Planet.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What I mean by he enjoys sparring is he likes going back for more and won't let up despite taking quite a bit of damage.. I think now its mutual respect for eachother that's preventing either of them doing even more damage.

I see. Really, what other option does the fish have in that situation? They live in a small box of water with other fish that , by nature, have the same temperament. Ultimately the purpose of the aggression is to establish boundaries and discourage other fish from infringing on breeding areas. From what I saw of the tank in your video, that encompasses both. At a minimum, give them more area for cover. I think breeding results would actually improve if the fish could dedicate more time to that process rather than an ongoing onslaught with the tank mates.

...I'm looking into rehousing the Neets. Its all kicked off since I introduced the two female Neets. The male Neets were pretty peaceful before then. The Big male istlanum is the boss of the tank and I think sees the Neets getting to cocky and he wants to put them in their place.

I don't interpret that the same way, but they're also not my fish. You've made your point about how aggressive neets are. I've learned a few things about neets that interest me from certain people in this thread, but in the wild they're essentially larger parachromis feeder fish so evil is in the eye of the beerholder.

A slight skirmish is one thing, but that istlanum looks like hes been in a ufc fight. Nice istlanum and nice pair of neets. However all the effort to get them to their full potential just to have them all scarred up and probably stressed just seems counterproductive...and imo a little irresponsible. However thats just my opinion and you know what they say about those.

No hold on a minute Mr Dissension!!!

Have you understood what I've been writing here before???

(A) The Big Male Neets were placid before I introduced the females - BUT as has been made very clear on this thread it's always a hit n miss thing trying to establish a harmony amongst Cichlids.

(B) Since the experiment of adding the female Neets things have kicked off but seem to be settling down now with a new understanding, between them.

(C) However that said, I made it clear I am going to set up a new Neet tank as things may get worst when the fry start appearing.

On the subject of wild Neets being feeders for Dovii etc.... That'll be non-breeding medium smaller specimens.

Lol sorry man that's just my opinion from what I've read. I dont have a problem with you and not screaming for peta to beat your door down. However I'm not backing off my opinion either, because you get a little touchy.

Lets be honest you've been bragging this whole time about neets being meaner than anything. Then you and the spider guy started posting videos of babies beating on other fish and each other. Now you started posting pics of a scarred up istlanum. Now your saying researchers are mistaken and neets fend off 20" dovii!! I'm not persecuting you, but lets call a duck a duck here lol.

You have nice fish, but maybe thread titles like the most "EVIL" cichlid accompanied with bragging and fight vids/pics isn't the best way to show case your neets aggressive tendencies. No hate or anything...just a friendly observation.

No. Actually Pyru is 100% correct. In the wild Neets are the food of choice for the much larger Parachromis dovii. The symbiotic relationship between Neets, Dovii and another species, Nicarauguense, is very interesting. In the wild, Neets are one of the primary predators of the Nicarauguense fry. There are many recorded instances of a much smaller (four or five inch) Nic helping to rear the fry of a monster by comparison (15+") Dovii. It's hypthesized that by helping defend Parachromis dovii fry, there is a greater chance that more Parachromis dovii will reach maturity and more of the Neetroplus nematopus will be eaten, leaving Hypsophrys nicaraguensis with fewer Neetroplus nematopus to defend against.

Nature rules.

Haha seriously dude. You can't spend an entire thread bragging about how badass your fish is and post fish fight videos and argue about neets can grammodes then say "oh I don't care how aggro they are, just showing you guys what is happening in my tank and looking for advice"

If you like watching fish beat each other up just own it lol

Argumentative, aren't you?.... trying to twist what I've been saying and gaining one-upmanship on a fellow member SOMES YOU UP MATE!!! Oh let me guess... you're now gonna reply with an essay trying to put me down some more?

If i want to show off my cool Neets then don't insult me and call it Bragging coz if you look at it that way 90% of threads on here are people bragging about their fish!

HANG ON A MINUTE!!!... which Primordial soup did you spring from?

I never posted all these "Fight videos" as you put it....other members did that and I answered a question with a video I found on youtube.... Deeeeerrr

Was I looking for advice? Nope not me. Just having a bit of fun showing a cool unusually large male NEET, which is my right and its not intended as bragging - only brain-deads would think that.

And if anyone is wondering why I get annoyed - I hate to be misquoted and painted as something I'm not!

Well lets see the videos showing large adult 7" Male Neets in breeding mode getting gobbled up by 20" Dovii? That was the argument put to me and I'd like to see the proof ;)
