Price should not be the determining factor as to what species of ray you keep.
Is that right?
Lemme toss a few thoughts out there-
I have always taken pride in my abilities to provide my rays with a good home. First thing I learned was that you need to eliminate doubt. To do this you must overkill EVERYTHING. Filtration, WCs, tank sizes, and food. This costs money.
Anyone keeping rays knows that IF you're keeping them properlly they breed. This returns some of the redicolus costs of keeping rays.
I have a water bill that has been close to 20,000 gallons a month. I feed close to 2 pounds of food per day. My electricity bill is $350+/month.
Why does all this matter? Cause as a room mate if you don't pay your rent you get kicked out.
I don't like going to work everyday, but guess what? I have to. If my rays want to stay at my place they need to kick in too.
Just cause I enjoy this hobby doesn't mean that I have to be broke all the time. If that is what it means then I'll bail. Rays is a game of balance. If you fall and can't get back up then you can't keep rays.
I don't make a ton of money, so I gotta do what I gotta do to stay in the hobby. If that means breeding black rays along with Marbles then I'd much rather do that then get to the point where I have no choice but to sell off most of my collection due to financial restrictions.
Price shouldn't be a determining factor but it's just like a woman's looks........ "shouldn't matter" but the truth is that IT DOES.
