It should be said that fish shouldn't be bought because they are the 'in' fish. You shouldn't let other people decide what you like (fish or in general). Fish keeping is a death til you part thing. Often, getting a fish because it is 'in' leads to dumping them into lakes and rivers later. If the fish isn't one that you really want you shouldn't get it in the first place.

You have seen the threads titled "Bought a 55g, what should I put in it". That is the wrong approach; those people will end up with fish that they don't like and won't care for (mentally and physically).
:iagree:

Yeah, I would love to see a pic. Do you remember how many stripes...that's key. The other Leporinus species are very common (fasciatus and affinis) but I never see desmotes around. Maybe it's a New England thing. :D
how many stripes am i looking for to be the desmotes?? ill count them up next trip in*S* and keep you posted.*S*

That would be great, I'm curious to see what you come back with. Here's the breakdown (total bands from the eye to the caudal fin):

Leporinus fasciatus: 10 Bands
Leporinus affinis: 9 Bands
Leporinus desmotes: 7-8 Bands (sometimes the bands near the caudal fin touch to look like one band.)

When are Convicts going to be "IN" again? I'd be rich! LOL

I feel sorry for batman rays, they sometimes cannot support there own weight because there disk isnt spread out evenly. They look nice sometimes, but it's just sad that most of the time theyre in constant pain.

I like fish how theyre supposed to be. I will sometimes look at a crossed fish Like maybe a Motoro X Scobina and say "That looks nice but I dont want it put into the gene pool as a pure and messing the gene pool up"

It's all personal preferance really. If you want a bunch of freaky deformed fish that cant swim right, go ahead. Im not going to stop you.
