behavior update

the humu has started competeing at the surface just like all the others, up till the last 2 feedings it has been waiting to feed till the excitment has gone down at the top to feed. it is still leary of my hand, but it is getting less concerned as the time passes. as the time passes it is also getting more familar with me. it now littens the blue between its eyes when it sees me and gets more excited.

the pinktail has been eatting like a pig. no fear realy to speak of. it has started some small fights with the niger. it will flare sometimes at it. alot start with the niger hanging by the humu both investigating something. then the pinktail will come up to take a look. for some reason it thinks it will get a better look from the nigers spot and tries to push it out of the way. the niger turns and gives a nip or headbutt to the pinktail, inwitch the pinktail returns the nip or headbutt sending the niger running. the pinktail will give chase for a few inches then go to the place it was fighting for to look at what ever they were looking at. then the humu leaves so the pinktail leaves aswell.

it is kinda funny. it is like the humu is the cool guy and the other 2 fight over who gets to swim by it. these little squabbles are just that little. no damage, no fins broke, just like african cichlids.

they are both out of the rock work more then not. they all have their spots that they sleep at, witch only the niger is at the same spot every night, the other two rotate spots. i will have to see how the blue jaw get treated at lights out. i may have to move the rocks again to force a sleeping arrangement change.

i forsee some blood flow from my hand in the future. the pinktail gets alittle to excited if i move the light to do somthing in the tank.(i have to move it to hand feed aswell)

Interesting...yes mine seem to be best friends...swimming together and the such, but there are definitely squabbles.

well it looks like there will be a delay on the blue jaw. the one he has now has a fungus and it wont eat. he said he may get some more in tomarrow. if one is clean and will eat he may ship it out for me. another option is if this one he has gets better and eats he could ship that one out for me. till then i am in limbo waiting on the fish gods. i said if he gets a new one in that is a looker like the sick one, then i will take it. if the sick one is better looking i will wait till it is better. going with the theroy of good things come to those who wait.

as for behavior all is well. haven't fought that i have seen since mid day yesterday.

Yea, its nice to have that.

Most of the time when I order fish it is wholesale.

They arent guranteed unless you lose 2/3rds of the order, so that can be rough.

Plus I dont feel as if they really care about you, sometimes you get fish in, and they are just pathetic.

Thats when you get a new wholesaler. Which I have. :D

most of my expierence has been from wholesale. same thing you open the box to find a mostly dead fungus covered stingray. still alive so is doesn't count as a doa, though it is dead within the day. then i found this place. it is a nice change to talk to someone that cares how the fish are doing even after the sale. that lfs feeling from across the country.

the only pressure is that i have to go back to work on jan. 3rd when school get back in, as i drive school bus for a living. so we would have to go back to shipping it to my moms house and depend on her for the acclimation. she did good on the last ones, but that is a step i would much rather do myself. i like opening the box first to see the fish swimming around in the bag. gets me all excited. its better then christmas.

It is great, I am working on an order for myself in the near future from saltwaterfish.com

I got a fungusy rectangulus once. The water smelt bad, there was poo and fish chunks in the h2o...not a good situation.

He still would have made it, except for the fact that he took shelter in the overflow for the night, and I didnt realize he was in there. :(

well he got a blue jaw in that is a looker, clean and eatting. i'll be getting it on thursday!

Sweet. Male I am assuming? Pictures will be in order when he comes in.

We had a huge across tank and out of the h2o confrontation today between the niger and the rectangulus. These things fight at crazy speeds. Literally almost couldnt see them moving around, but you could hear the teeth chomping. :D

yes it is a male. i may get a female later, but for now i will just get males for the mix. i have notice with a. cichlids you can have an overstocked all male tank till you through a female, then all hell breaks lose.

i have seen how fast these guys move so i can imagine how that was. the only time i have heard the jaws snaping was during hand feedings the pinktail chomps its way up to my fingers, don't matter if they are in the water or not.

still no fights on my side of things. we'll see how the blue jaw mixes.

i will have more cell phone pics of them with the blue jaw in the mix. i still haven't found or bought the usb line for my camera.

I hear teeth snapping all the time.

Mainly from my rectangulus, who actually spends a lot of time biting rocks. Its kinda strange, but I have noticed his teeth arent as big.

I just think he was doing some dental work.
