The pearls of great value

I have been a bit worried about the male destroying the female trying to learn how to breed. So I picked up a new girlfriend for him to practice with. She is much bigger than he is so she can handle herself much better. I’m fact I am more worried that she may destroy him than anything ?. She has a bit of a past in which she may have already killed an immature male who pissed her off too much. ☠

she’s 20” disc so she makes the 300g tub look pretty small, so I am now back on the hunt for bigger tanks (as if that has ever stopped ??)

No way!! That’s my old Stingray I raised since she was imported from Thailand! I was the original owner.. Sad to see she’s only grown an inch since I sold her back at the end of January. Hope you can give her the life she deserves!

Matteus Matteus Love the thread and I am totally jealous of those rays. I appreciate all the info. you're giving in the form of your personal experiences. I hope to see many more updates.

Thank you all for the kind words. These rays have changed my life in so many ways it’s remarkable how I am a different person now because of it all.

I feel like it is a huge privilege to keep them and I don’t take the responsibility lightly.

I am happy to report that the bino girl is doing much better, her head is no longer caved in, her backside is starting to fill in a bit better, the abrasions on her belly are healing up fairly fast. She has been eating 3-4 small meals a day now mostly on her own, small daily wc and she is becoming more active. I don’t have any pics however because I have not turned lights on her tank since she arrived to keep stress as low as possible.

the big girl is settling in really well and is making good friends with the snow leopard. I often watch them swimming together in unison, almost cute how they hang out together. These girls are also eating 3-4 small meals a day and no more casualty silver dollars. Water changes 2-3 time a week right now until I can keep the water on par. Her colour is starting to show off now that she is settled into the tub, man she is a stunner, I love her patterns, and I’m so happy I took the plunge and picked her up even though it stretched me pretty thin.

the male is killing it, I think he has what it takes to make the big girl a big mamma.

Thank you for reaching out. I see you just joined today so I can’t send you a dm on here but I think I know your name from the previous owner so I will send you a dm on messenger. I would love to connect with you if you are ok with that

You’re welcome to contact me any time you’d like, it’s so amazing to hear all the good news you’ve been telling me about her. I’ve always watched the mfk forums for years researching silently in the background, but I just had to join and contact you when I saw you acquired one of my old stingrays and I had no other way to reach out to you at the time. Such a small world! Glad she’s in good hands

It warms my heart that you came out of the woodwork because of this.

I looks forward to seeing you post about your killer stock…

so this girl has been through a lot of issues in her life. At this point I have chalked it up to possibly being poor genes because of inbreeding. I’m not sure if that is it, or it is because she has suffered some sort of neurological trauma from almost dying as a pup. I have toyed with the idea of selling her and replacing her with another female of similar size, but I think I will just try to keep her and not expect to breed her. I am happy I have been able to keep her alive this far. She keeps me on my toes, so I need to make sure everything is perfect for the princess. A few of her barbs often come in pointing downwards rather than up, which I haven’t seen very often on other rays.

she is eating fairly consistent and a decent amount, but not getting fat or putting in much size or weight. I don’t know exactly what to do at this point. ??
