Maybe it didn't become profitable?

I find that many people (myself included) don't get around to selling the fish they intended to sell at the time of breeding. Instead I spend more money on larger tanks and have species dedicated tanks. The only time I sell fish is for store credit for tanks / supplies (usually buy their obnoxiously priced 10-20gals for $100-150, with my local fish store I think I'm going to save up for a 75 gal bow front this time $1900 in store) of credit or trading them for other fish locally (I always avoid trying to pay cash for fish locally). I'm sure if I had the motivation to ship fish or posts ads online I could make a decent buck. I don't know how productive my friends 20gal tank is but he sells guppies for $2 each at around 6-9mm and shrimp for a buck each. I'm certain it's paid off 10 fold.

Ya, I had thought you'd need a pond and have to be selling constantly with maximized shipping efficiency and cost. All this assuming high demand.

I don't think so because the buyer covers shipping/handling. It's typically not cheaper to buy online afaik just more convenient.

Right, but you don't get out what doesn't go in. He needs things for those fish to get them sold on or offline and he's going to hoof everything unless there's an inexpensive way to get it.
