the project....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Now you guys are going whacky lol. I said the big stuff comes later....IE years from now. First things first starting with a Bullhead x Suncat attempt. :)

So when will the project start? A week or two? or a month? I want a catfish that can do household chores for the main event.

lol. Well technically it has already started. As for the actually cross I am slating it tentatively for next spring. :) Hmm well for your idea I would have to mix a pleco into the equation and breed it with a chimp or soemthing

In all seriousness, a pleco x normal catfish cross would be a VERY interesting thing to see. That hadn't crossed my mind until now. I'd think that it would be easier to cross a pleco with another South American catfish than it would be a RTC with a Paroon.

+1 that would be nice!!

@necro would you even distribute those hybrids here at MFK?

I see where you are going with it but first a lot of research would need to go into the genetics of plecos vs. other catfish. We don't really know that plecos are closely related to any of the SA catfish. For all we know plecos could be a transplant from ocean going species a few hundred thousand, mllion years ago. Just because they are same continent doesn't mean they are closely related. :) Some oceanic catfish are transitioning in Austrailia, but they are far from closely related to the ones that already inhabit the freshwater regions inland. I will have to look at the charts again to see where the supposed relationship of plecos with other catfish is. It may be that they are more closely related to fish in other countries or even oceanic catfish. Eventually I would like to try my hand at some oceanic catfish, but my thinking is that although closely related the phisiology distinction of FW vs. SW may be too great to produce viable offspring. lol, maybe they would end up brachish? Does anyone know of any sw x fw hybrids?

Nope keeping them all for myself bwahahahha. The plan is to sell some to recoupe costs and try to go bigger and better. PLans do fail though. :)

Ow, my my... Why would you bear to keep it all yourself! Send some love! Coommoon. But still pics would be enough for us.
:mwave: Hoping for the best and less failures! :mwave:
