The Rapps Orino thread!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
low ph is a good thing for these guys from what I have read but 5.8 is very very low.

acidic waters they like, but mine was almost too pure, more for discus. Their colors are coming back and their eating guppies like crazy again.

These dudes are Roothless! I seen a Barb that I like and wanted to know how they do with other fish aside from their own... So I went to a LFS and seen a Bala Shark (as the tester before I purchase the more expensive barb). I tossed in the Bala after acclimating him and he was swimming... naturally was drawing attention to the ever so hungry Orinos. The Bala shark is about 4"... and the orinos are 2-2.5" now. As yesterday went on I would check on the Bala/Orinos... everything was all good. Fins in place, not to much activity except the Orinos looking
hungry...again:ROFL:

Woke up this for work at 4am to see a Face-less Bala Shark hardly swimming. You couldnt even see where the eyes use to be. it looked like the Bala Shark got his face stuck in a Power head and swam to tell about it. No, lips/mouth, no eyes.... his face had some meat but you can see right thru to the otherside of the tank... you would of never ever known where his eyesokets went. I felt bad and tossed him in thr freezer....

I guess there goes my Idea of a Tankmate for now:eek:

broooooooooo! i had the EXACT same thing happen, except it was with a feeder goldfish. i tossed in one feeder goldfish about the same size as the orinos. they immediately swarmed him and kinda left him alone when they realized he was too big to eat. a few hours later i see them picking at the goldfish's face. his eyes were friggin GONE!!!!!! it's funny how they can tell apart their own kind and they all kinda gang up on the goldfish.

i wish i could have seen the start of the frenzy. would have been cool to see how they decided to attack it :)

you guys need to feed your fish more... I have 10 orinos in half a 20L with 3 1" datnoids and no aggression issues at all.

haha they eat three times a day, and theyre always hungry. id feed them more if i wasnt at work all day

... I feed my guys 2-3 times a day (morn it is 1 whole shrimp... all have bellys popped out at 4am... and then them belly is full again around 4pm... sometimes before I go to sleep too...)... Morn is Diced Shrimp and later on its minnows:naughty:... They are always at the front of the glass trying to find something to eat:drool:

had alittle issue here recently. Very low PH 5.8, added 5 teaspoons of alkaline buffer, bam 8.4 ph, wtf. Got a neutral buffer, added 1 tsp every 6 hrs down to 7.0 and there back to themselves all within a 48hr period, so alot of stress caused by me, lost three in the process though. They've been on guppies and baby platty feeders, they would not take to shrimp. Are you guys using regular shrimp from acme or whatever, but raw ? And also on bloodworms. Their around 2.5" as well. I added actinic lighting, wow what a difference in appearance. I can see some spangling on the dorsal fin, and the ocellaris spot starting to form at the back. Bringing out alot of color in these guys already.

damn Jimmie dont be messing with your ph! thats the worst thing you can do, with any fish. if the fish dont look stressed in the current conditions, leave it alone. trying to get to a certain ph value is much more deadly, as you saw.

got any pics of the spangling?? :)
