The Reason for cycling a tank is to build BB for the Bio Load...

1 ml of Prime treats 10 gallons. If I used other products, I'd be in the poor house. Monster tanks + monster goldfish = Monster water changes multiple times per week!

Either way it is a good thread. I'm still not convinced about Prime, I read through some of the thread someone posted and the second trial had problems and had ammonia for 16 days.

My bad, meant to say stability.

If Prime removes chlorine and chloramine, and also detoxifies the nitrogenous compounds, wouldn't that mean that it would both break the chlorine+ammonia bond, then detoxify the ammonia?

I honestly couldn't believe the first time I heard that one capful of Prime treated 50 gallons, when I'd been using NovAqua and AmQuel, which treat 10 gallons/capful.

Yes, if you use Prime for chloramine, it will break the bond, then detoxify the ammonia produced.

I was also referring to using it during a cycle problem in your tank, to still have low levels of ammonia present for the BB to colonate, while protecting the fish from ammonia burn :)

Also, AmQuel removes ammonia from being available to the BB, and can efficiently starve your BB to death. I hate the stuff personally! It also messes with your pH, and can cause EVEN MORE stress to your fish...it most certainly does not get my stamp of approval!

I am not going to read all the posts, I gave up after it was determined you could look at your water and tell what was going on!

But, I did read the posts about Prime :)

I agree, this stuff is amazing. I used to "age" water. Now, I vac the tank down about 30%-50%, toss in 2 capfuls of Prime (a touch more than is recommended), flip the switch on the Python, check temp and refill from the tap.

Compared to how I used to do water changes, it's now insanely simple! I have had ZERO fish losses since :)

X 2. Easy to use and a bottle goes a long way. I've used just about all of them. Prime is great

Oh, well if that's what you meant...I concur.

Yea, I've been hearing a lot of things about prime. Currently I have the gallon jug of kordons nova aqua plus, which treats about 7600 gallons. I purchased this from petsmart, which only sells the 250ml bottles of prime for 9.99, which if I bought 3, would treat 100 less gallons than the same price of the nova aqua. I'm sure theres other places that sell prime in larger amounts.

Yes, to my original statement where I was referring about STABILITY, and not prime, I'm not sold on that idea.

Well being that Tap water ALSO contains Floride (Supposed to be good for your teeth if you "didn't know", but floride can also stain your teeth) AND AMMONIA (To kill the bacteria) I'd use Tank Water ANY Day Before I'd use Fresh Tap water. Main reason is that I know how Clean I Keep my tanks...

Sounds like I'm not the one that is fooled here... Maybe I'm not the one whom should do some more reserch, especially on what you consider to be "Fresh Tap Water"......

Water Changes.....

I have a heated resevoir that I age the tank water in for days.... After treating it... Water Change time I made a python out of Gravel Vacuum, 1/2ID of clear Tubing from HD (75ft cause I have a 2200Sq Ft Ranch) and a 3ft section of garden hose at the end to connect to the resevoir that pumps the aged treated water (which by the way comes from a tapped main line) after the appropriate amount of tank water is Removed, into the tank via Shutoff valve.

Yeah, ammonia for 16 days... Not good.

I don't understand, in your first post about using tap water, you make it sound as if it is terrible. IN the second quote, you say you use it.
