I don't know were you live but firing a weapon into a body of water here would likely see you either in jail, bankrupt and definitely never seeing said weapon again. same goes for any handheld weapons used on fauna, regardless of invasive status.
So, you're snagging them....or are they attacking the hook?Bouncing a treble hook off the bottom.
Definitely snagging. I will be surprised if the DNR does not start netting them some day. 5 years ago their was not any Asian carp. Then in 2012 floods, the river flowed 60,000 CFS all summer. The power station low head dam 40 miles down stream. Got jumped. So, you're snagging them....or are they attacking the hook?
In PA you can spearfish for Burbot while diving but you have to use a handheld/propelled one no guns allowed. You're also allowed to bow"fish" for carp, cats, and suckers which is bs, I've seen more than one fishery destroyed by excessive bowfishing harvest. But I'm thinking you're right about the gun thing, WCO would be pretty angry if they saw you shooting at carp in a public lake
I have seen a few people bow fishing for them. I think in another 10 years, The Asian carp will be about the only thing below the Dam.
It's just a mater of time before they get into the lake, and head up state.
