I hate moving fish in general, though i am not advocate of putting a puny fish into a large set-up. Hmmm, a balance? put puny fish into monster aquarium then 'coral' it so that it does not have too much space. Very good for feeding and viewing
i would be thinking of a way like how ppl move rays, with big bags of water and etc., i would just have to move them before they got too big to move.ctoychik;3151699; said:Agree with polish. Too many re-location is stressfull for both (owner and the kittie). Moving a RTC that outgrew 7' tank is not fun. I moved my RTCs one time only. 7'x2' into 10'x6.7' (footprint). They don't seem to grow very fast after being moved into a large set-up. TL's RTC are mighty fat but they are hardly 5' or 6' beast. I recon it would take some time to get to that length.
10'x4' footprint aquarium would last a long LONG time for RTC - though unfortunately not for life

Might as well put the fish in a decent sized home to start with. therefore theres about ZERO chance of stunting the fish and u get maximum growth rate with the best possible water quality! the reason why my younger RTC outgrew my older RTC by so much is due tot he fact that the smallest tank he/she has lived in is 8 feet! then quickly moved to a large fibreglass tank wen 12 inches....then subsequent moves into ponds.polish;3151734;3151734 said:Agreed.
I'd say with the size yours and TL's are they will grow pretty slow from here on out. The growth rate is like a bell curve, starting fast and slowly tapering off to an inch a year or less. TL's big one he said in another thread was 42" & 5 years old yet the 62" RTC @ the Aquarium I linked above is 35 years old. So the growth slows drastically, even in large tanks. However I don't want people to get the wrong idea, in the first year alone it will reach 24"+.

Moving large catfish is NOT recomended. they seem to take stresss to a whole new level compared to moving smaller fish. mine starved for a few months wen moved into the final pond.
