~ The Teachers' Lounge ~

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We had some pay cuts last year, and a few positions went to 1/2 time, but so far no out and out cuts. We dropped our tuition by 35%, so hopefully we will see a rise in enrolement.

Broward County public schools however are a different story. Hundreds of layoffs last year... all sub jobs going to teachers on layoff and almost no openings for teachers to return to at other schools. Just a few years ago with certifications in Biology and ESE, I had principals clawing over me... the way things are now, I would be lucky to get a call back if I were looking for work.

saturday morning im taking the biology 026 and 027 GACE assessment tests. i've been studying for the past week and a half. im getting nervous about the essay portion.

get a good sleep, wake up early, take a refreshing shower, eat a healthy breakfast (easy on the cofee), and leave enough time in the morning to relax and clear your mind... This routine has always worked well for me when taking big tests... good luck!

thanks. it sucks because the test is at 8am tomorrow. i work till 9tonight. i'll prolly get up quite early, head over and study before the test. i've done pretty well on the practice tests, just need to go slowly and make sure i read the questions entirely.

be sure not to cram, converting information to long term memory will occur best if you give your brain a chance to settle down before going to sleep. So study the night before if you must, but don't study right up untill you fall asleep. Then, only do a basic review in the morning to be sure the information is still there and concentrate on keeping stress low. By the time you wake up the day of the test, you will either be ready or not ready... there is no value in stressing out at that point.

again, good luck!

Why do you teachers hate gum? Gum keeps the kid awake and gives them something to entertain their tastebuds throughout the day. As long as the students aren't sticking the pieces on the desks i think it shouldn't be banend

no cuts here of course if you cut someone we would not have a teacher for that subject then...

Of course it is saturday and we are in school for make up school day. 5 total Saturdays...

On gum... because students spit it on the floor, stick on the desks, and smack it pop it. Things are banned because they were allowed and students abused them.

My teacher let us chew gum for a week once as a test. At the end of the week there were 5 pieces of gum stuck to the bottom of every desk and on the floor.
