Teaching is a great career, it's one of those few occupations where you really know you're making a difference in the world.

Some other pro's to being a teacher:
*MonsterFishKeeping at Work (I mean actual fish-keeping, not just online)
*Paid Holidays
*Great Benefits
*Christmas Vacation
*Job Security (no shortage of rug-rats in this world)
*Summer Vacation
*Getting to Know Your Community
*Spring Break
*Being a Kid's Favorite Teacher!

There are some con's:
*Sick All the Time
*Low Pay (Especially at first)
*Long Hours
*Crazy Kids
*Crazier Parents

Good Luck!

X2 (for the most part)

I teach Science and Aquaculture, with certifications in ESE and Guidance. I love my job and believe in what I do.

However, none of the reasons I continue teaching involve money or fish.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

I LOVE THIS THREAD! :headbang2

Feel free to PM me anytime!

3 Reasons why I teach? June, July, and August!

Seriously thou, I love my job, I dont wake up everyday like so many people thinking to myself "I dont want to go to work" At times I feel like I dont work at all, something you cant feel no matter how much money you make (or dont make - lol). Life is to short not to do something you love. Besides, think about it, most of your life is spent working, so why not do something you enjoy! Dont get me wrong there are negatives to the job as well, like crazy parents, low pay, long hours, etc. What grade do you want to teach?

Here are a few pics of my classroom through out the years! Tadpole setups, pond projects, and overall weird stuff I get to do and get paid for at the same time! Another cool thing is I get to be on MFK here at work!

FYI - Mike another MOD here is also a teacher.

My first post was a bit facetious - all the time off is great (my wife says I have an amazing ability to keep myself entertained) but the real reason I teach is the kids!

I work at a small rural K-8 where I have two grade levels in my class. This year I actually have three, a 2nd/3rd blend in the morning. In the afternoon we switch, my kids go to reading groups and I teach Math and Science to the 1st/2nd graders.

I understand what Gr8 said about feeling like you're not working at all. Sometimes I think we're having too much fun to be really working! Grading days and inservices are murder for me (my ADHD really flares up if I sit still too long...) but days with kids fly by!

I've taught there for 5 years as a certified teacher, but I was an assistant there before going back to get my M.A.T. I've really gotten to see the kids grow up - It's quite a feeling. I will admit that seeing kids driving cars that you knew as kindergardeners does make you feel old! :)

These picture show a typical January day for us. The rest of the school district is 1500' lower than us, so they never call off school for snow until we're six feet under!
