OMG - I thought Fridays were suppose to be easy, I am running the book fair here at school and caught a freakin first grader stealing!!!!

Can't wait for break!!!! Going to San Diego with the inlaws and visiting the Zoo. I'm stoked. Wish we could make it to Monteray bay aquarium, but my mother inlaw has the week booked up.
Today is grading day - my least favorite part about being a teacher. Wading through papers and trying to assign a value to kids' skills is definitely not my strongpoint!
On an upnote - the first/second grade teacher brought me a present today, two 8-9" Engineer Gobies and a Clownfish for the saltwater tank. Since it has no lid over a section of the tank I had to do some modifications (the gobies look like they could be escape artists). I also added about 25 pounds of crushed coral for them to play with, as it was a barebottom tank. That, along with some tank maintanence put me about 3 hours behind on my report cards...

Yesterday a student was running late to class so I told her she better beat me there. Just then a boy ducked into the bathroom. So I popped my head in and told him to get to class. Now I was out sick the last time our class meet. SO I had to have the behave for the sub talk. Half way in the student who was in the hall earlier walked in with out a pass. I asked where she had went. Her reply was the office. Then she asked do I need a pass. I nicely said please go get one. She returned a few minutes later in the middle of my talk and handed a pass. The pen that had marked unexcused was scartched out with pencil, and had marked excused. I asked her did you change it?
She of course said NO. I said really? It is written in pen, and changed in pencil. Like the one in your hand. She replied I did not do it. I said, Right and the office changed it with pencil when they had a pen in their hand? Again, did you change it? Whatever, what if I did? she replied. I said just go on ahead to the office. Her mother emailed me this morning, telling me that the Principal had talked to her and that she did not change it. I checked in with the Principal. Normally he is on top of things and I just had to share this email with him. He laughed and said I told her not such thing. I told her she had told me that she had changed the pass. I also told her and her mother that one more mistake and she is expelled. I was turning to leave the office when the Secertary walked over and said I had a call. It was her mother, wanted to check in about the write up. I explained that her daughter had in fact changed the pass, and was late to class, not just tardy but extermely late. The mother was shocked. She said, I had no clue. I though she had just ran a minute late calling me. Then she had not idea that her daughter had in fact changed the pass. Truely so parents are as dumb as their students.
My class of 29 raised over 450 dollars for the family we are sponsoring for the Holidays. THe school picked a family up (only 193 students) and we raised well over 1500 dollars. Better yet we did this with a school that is 70 percent free and reduced! My class and a talk about what it was like waking up without Christmas when they were young (and I as well coming from a poor city). We all agreed that no child should have to wake up and think that Santa did not come. So we all saved up. I was so happy about how generous my students were! So atleast the Day ended well.

Wish students showing up late was the extent of my kids issues...
Had a 7th grader runway... we think. She just took off afterschool with some of the other kids...Kids she didn't know before coming for her sentence and she hasn't been seen in three days. The others she left with are coming to school, but they aren't talking... even with lockup being threatened and po's being called. Hope she turns up ok... She is one naive little girl, as they should be. Kills to think about it.

Heck, I am use to the drugs and drinking and gang members. Those I know what I am getting, and they know to not mess with me. Those cases are easy to handle. Catch them call the cops and expel them. This girl is on her way out because she setup another student to get jumped a month ago. She is on her last shots, and then pulls crap like this. It pisses me off. If a sub had not let her out early that day I would have seen her push the girl to start the whole thing. Then I could have suspended her, but since she did it before passing period all I caught was the other girls fighting. She got a way clean.

- I work at schools all day an know everyone by name and spend lots of time with them.However I am amazed at how many negative ppl are working at the schools.Do you guys get lots of this?I know their is venting and thats healthy in a way,but these ppl are complete downers,gossipers,out right haters,hypocrites,and not only do they keep themselves down they bring everyone else down.The schools here are full of it.Ive never seen so many ppl hate their job.I know all the politics of the school systems and I see the class rooms in action.FOr the good ppl working their I truly feel for them but they cowboy up and remember why they took this job and spent years in school to do this.They count their blessings and expect each day to be an adventure and they keep fighting while encouraging each other.Venting is fine,I love it,but these other ppl are killing themselves and spreading their disease.They yell at any kid that walks by,soon as someone leaves the room they talk bad about them.Its a mighty list,but keep in mind guys that like I said,their are many wonderful and humble,outgoing,loving teachers and staff in my county too,Im just mind boggled by how many ugly black hearted disease spreading ppl work in this system and dont do something about it because they seem to truly hate kids and hate other ppl.So,just wondering if this is spreading like wildfire or if its just my county.Yesterday I didnt hear one single positive remark from anyone until I went to this giant potato farm and the ppl were working on the factory line covered in muck and it was like 55 degrees out,they had been working since 5 in the morn on 12 hour days and they were the most outgoing kind positive ppl I met all week.
- Anyways,like I said before,Im not baggin on any of you,I dont know you guys that way to do so and if I did it would be just for fun,and I know venting and a place to vent is good and I do it too,but what is going on with these other ppl and why are they allowed to stay when their are so many good ppl wanting these jobs?For the normal teachers out their and staff,God bless you,you are truly aprecieated by me and many others for what you put into these kids.Never forget how much kids learn from you even outside of the class material.Through all the political bs you guys are still very powerful ppl in a comunity and for those of you who take that to heart and try to make a diference then I wish I could shake your hand and say thanks right now,but thanks.
