I respectfully disagree - I don't think that nitrates should be 40ppm only 3 days after an 80% WC. Unless tap water has higher nitrates...

I wouldnt say it looks to be 40. To me it looks like 20ish. 40 is way high for city water im pretty sure there is an acceptable limit of around 10ppm may even be lower. I havent looked at my water profile for awhile it says on it.

The ammonia tests always look like there is ammonia to me.

if it was 40ppm after 3 days I'd agree but it looks about 20ppm to me assuming the city water is 10ppm and the water before the change was 30ppm after the water change it should of been at 14ppm so that is about 2ppm gain a day which means approximately 8 days till another water change is needed to keep it below 30ppm

Thanks everyone for the fast responses. Of course I freaked seeing ammonia... That was super crazy to me to see. So of course I did a 50% WC right then and cleared out tons of plant matter. Also broke down the filter and did a deep clean.

With the current bioload, I clean the filter sponge out once a week. We will see how this every 4 days WC goes with the parameters. The filter (Aquaclear 110)is doing notably better since I cleaned the U part of intake tube.

Everybody has been happy the past couple of days. The current stock is: 5 polys, 3 danios, 3 Congo tetras.i used tohave 4 danios, but the moke probably ate it. With the tetra, there might have been tetra-on-tetra cannabalism,. It was missing its eyes,...

OK, guess I was reading it wrong at 40. Apologies.

It's hard enough to read my own sometimes let alone someone else's on a computer. ;)
Same. Thankfully, you guys are great friends. I’m thinking :” I can’t read this and it’s in my hand!”

Does the aquaclear have biomedia in it, too, like ceramic doo-hickies, or is it just a sponge?

And did you test your tap for ammonia and nitrates yet?
