The truth behind PETA, HSUS, and BCR

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually you can go to PETA's own website and find their own stupididy and mis-information to the public there, esp. when they don't know jack on what they are talking about.

Also one of the PETA people here in FL kept bugging a friend of my dad over a bearded dragon he had in a cage that was probably as big as a small room. The guy even got F&W to come out and right a report on the enclosure and the lady still wouldnt leave him alone.

PETA was also involved in the blowing up of a pet store in California (reports are somewhere online... this was yearssss ago) They also bought Shamu and released him into the Ocean where the animal died because .... oh yeah duh..... he was hand fed dead fish.

I am not saying I support people who want to have no restrictions either. Helping/Protecting animals is one thing... but PETA is over extreme.

I agree, there needs to be a happy medium and I think that FL is that medium as it stands now. I think that all of the proper rules and permits are in place but it is not enforced like it should be.

And FWIW...i'm not a PETA supporter but much of the info against them comes from petkillsanimals.com. Which is run by the center for consumer freedom. If this organization had their way you would be able to eat endangered species at burger king and the amazon would be in the history books already.

PETA and the HSUS are both backing the python ban from what I understand and I am sure that if it goes through, they will not stop there. Bans on all sorts of other pets would spring up from lobiests funded by organizations like these. I am against many people owning things like piranha and venomous snakes but I think that there should be a system in place that allows for responsible people to keep these animals as a way to enrich their lives.
I am not saying that there are not other organizations out there that we need to watch out for but I do think that these are the worst of them.

There have been several instances when wild populations of animals were saved due to private keepers (not zoos but regular hobbiests like you and me) so I believe that those whom are responsible enough should be able to keep rare/ endangered species. I think that if private breeders were allowed more access to these rare animals and worked alongside with zoos and ISIS, a lot of good would come from it.

PETA is just a group of celebrities who need attention and insane terrorists.
If the PETA people on your friend's farm REALLY cared about the Snakes, he wouldn't have let them go uncaredfor :irked:

With the first video, if Big Cat Rescue really IS doing that, that's still pretty messed up. Even if PETA (who, by the way, kills more animals then they save) was responsible.

PETA=PEOPLE EAT TASTY ANIMALS

I agree peta is horrid and extremist. i do agree animal cruelty is bad and all but i dont agree with there views.

Haha, that last video is epic. Favorited.
In the immortal words of Chris Rock:
"LISTEN!! Let it SWIRL around your head!!"
PETA KILLS ANIMALS
I'll be right back, I have to feed my Leopard Sea Kitten slave a few cruelly killed Bloodworms.

But I don't mind ALL animal activism. PETA is a crock of turd, but Sea Shepherd is awesome.

Oh, by the way, you might not wanna watch that 3rd video if you have a weak stomach or don't wanna hear some bad language.

I was just thinking, the man who owned the snake farm could probably get the PETA people jailed for animal cruelty. How awesome would that look on the front page of a newspaper.

I love animals and hate people who are cruel to them. But PETA is ridiculous.

And they're against fishkeeping? Let's release our fish into the wild, where they will kill native populations and then die when it get's cold out.

You guys remember the uproar about the Sea Kitten campaign? There was a great bash thread about it a few months ago :grinyes:
Well this is one of PETA's most disturbing capmaigns. With slogans like "The way your daddy tortures fish, keep him away from your puppies and kittens...they might be next!" And stuff along those lines, that is my #1 reason for calling PETA terrorists. That campaign is marketed to children. Read this.

A litter-trained fish! WTF

hr669, didnt actually ban pet ownership, just banned unapproved animals. the animals preapproved were, livestock, cats, dogs, and goldfish i believe.

the python ban now only bans burmese and rock pythons. my congressman emailed me back, he was part of a commitee reviewing it.
Thank you for contacting me in regardstoyour opposition to H.R. 2811, to prohibit the importation and interstate trade of pythons.

As initially introduced, H.R. 2811 would have listed the entire Python genus as an "injurious animal," which would have prohibited python importation into the U.S. and interstate trade. The House Judiciary Committee, of which I am a member, considered H.R. 2811 on July 29, 2009. After close consultation with the U.S. Association of Reptile Keepers and the U.S. Humane Society, an agreement was reached to limit the scope of the legislation to only ban the importation and trading of two python species: Burmese pythons and African rock pythons. That agreement unanimously passed the House Judiciary Committee on July 29, 2009. H.R. 2811 has not yet been considered by the entire House of Representatives.

As this bill continues to evolve and proceed through the legislative process, I remain committed to protecting the interests of thousands of reptile keepers and pet owners. We must ensure the inclusion of reasonable provisions for existing python owners and breeders. At the same time, the proliferation of non-native species in parts of the United States has had a devastating impact on some local ecosystems. Balance must be achieved in protecting local wildlife and plant life as well as guarding the interests of those with pet pythons and python related businesses.
