The Walking Dead

i'm guessing/thinking it was so shocking to you guys because it was still early in the story and all still new. that was the first time something truly shocking happened to a character we slightly got to know. plus she was a kid, so kids dying is always a shock, let alone being that early in the show.

there was jim and andrea's sister but they died early on so it was not that big a deal. but with Sophia she had been with the group for a minute, and all season is focused around her. then the shock comes when she's revealed after a tense moment.

in fact, it was a good setup by the writers and director to have that big fight and tense moment of busting the barn doors open. that Sophia scene piggy backed off the previous scene

I will agree that the only thing that could've improved the throat slits was to kill a main character.

the fact they spent a whole season on looking for Sophia is the reason I believed she was dead. but it was just my guess at the time that happened to be correct. how can a little girl that early on in the apocalypse survive in the woods all that time? I figured she'd be dead.

so when she came out the barn of course there is a shock factor, but it was not that big to me. that scene never lingered in my memory that it was a shocking and well acted scene. it was good, but not to me what it was to you guys or how you all are describing it. that's all i'm saying

the execution throat slits didn't need any building up. it was the season premiere. we know the group was captured, we know the termites are cannibals. we know they are slaughtering humans like cattle. what more build up do you need

the set up, the delivery, the tention. whack! slit. bleed out

man, the shock factor was off the chart with that scene. yall is crazy for not seeing all that

Umm, no we didn't know they were butchering people. Only you comic viewer knew for sure. I don't view slicing John Doe one and twos throat any different then killing random zombie. Some no ones died, who cares?

um, yea, ok

nothing I said had anything to do with the comics. everything I said was shown or hinted on last season's finale. hello,.....luring people to terminus, rounding up people into containers, even as they were luring rick and them toward the containers there were shots of human body parts on a tarp. everyone was guessing they were cannibals and butchering people. everyone except you obviously

besides, the cannibals thing in the comics were very different. it was not like on the show. there were not that many and they were not organized like gareth and his group. there was no little "town" they were luring people to, they did not have a factory where they were lining people up to slaughter.

they were more like a small group out looking for people. if they spotted people, they'd follow them around, see who they were with, scope out the group to see if it was safe to make a move. then when one person went to the woods to take a crap they'd kidnap and take back to be eaten. there was no trailers full of captured groups of people like on the show. it was not on that scale. so it was very different and us comic readers only knew they were cannibals, how it all played out on the show was all new. it was a completely different scenario that we were also clueless on besides the fact that they were cannibals.

Gonna be honest, too long didn't read. There was really no point of reading after graphic novel readers always knew at some point there were cannibals. Any pure TV follower had zero hint of that until rumors starting surfacing near end of last season. You can't possible even pretend you know our vantage point or views of the shows direction when your own have been spoiled by pre reading what you're watching

Now to be clear, did i know there was a possibility of cannibals before season 5, yes. Did I have any idea before Internet rumours read on this site? Not a clue. Not until people started hinting at beth possible being eaten. So no i hadn't assumed they were butchering people, I assumed based on hints that they were just eating a few enemies, not herding em like cows. You can even say the shock value may have been higher if not for all the long pork jokes and hints when discussing beth last year. If it makes you feel smarter that you figured it out based on hints on the show while pretending you didn't know cannibals existed, by all means puff up your chest.

Infact i wish there hadn't been a break there so that less speculation would've surfaced and more people would've been surprised. Just one pure TV followers point of view. It's annoying pretending that graphic novel readers and TV viewers are going on the same journeys while watching the show. We're not. It's not even debateable

too long didn't read my 3 paragraphs

but you go and write your own 3 paragraphs. lol

I never pretended I didn't know there were cannibals. didn't I say there were?

so what part of herding rick and them into a container did you not understand that people were being herded? plus as they were being herded, there were voices coming from containers. you said we knew for sure about the butchering. but there was no butchering in the comics. that's what i'm saying, the herding and butchering was not in the comics. those conclusions i got from what was shown on the show. but i will admit, knowing there were cannibals aided in coming to those conclusions

i'll give you that, you may be right, i can't say we have the same vantage point. or maybe i overestimated you guys would see the clues.

you can't say that about the Sophia thing though. the Sophia thing on the show never happened in the comics. some things we see coming, not everything

plus no one said comic viewers are on the same journey as pure tv show watchers

did i compare some events that we are clueless on just like pure tv viewers are? yes, of course. because it's true. some things that happened on the show never happened in the comics.

so why would i not compare or point it out? and just because i made some comparison doesn't mean i'm trying to say we're on the same journey

anyways, this discussion is getting tired

as you said, we've both said our parts and gave our reasoning.

still wanna see the results of that poll though if you ever get to it
