The work starts here. 20ft tank!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey, I'm in UT too and saw this on ksl. It will be interesting to see what you do with it. When I saw it, I asked my wife if I could buy a 20 foot tank. She just rolled her eyes and walked out of the room.:p

sorry i missed alot while i was mid typing, im going to go with what wednesday is suggesting and beef up all the seams. if it still is scary on the test fill i can consider the vertival acrylic supports but i do not know if it will be needed. as stated earlier there is alot of tanks that bow as long as the seams are strong i would guess the bowing wouldnt matter much.
im considering cutting the tank in half to get it into the basement, as im bracing all the seams with weldon#40 i could join the tank back together.. just a thought.
another option is to cut the tank to 15' and using the extra 5' as scrap for my joints ect. 2, 10ft tanks would also be an option. ive got a TON to consider

Imnot talkin 2 10ft tanks im sayin cut it in half and glue its width wis so instwad of 20ft by 30inch make it 10 by 60.... Assuming tht last part was concerning my post lol

Heck tear a wall down, dig a hole in front of the window well to get the angle right. Option are always available. Ill help tear some of your house or this tank apart.

Now that is original haha! Best idea ive read so far....Makes perfect sense to dig a hole and just slide her in. Kinda like a set of storm doors lol....

I got a question for you cichla guys out there... if I only use half this tank for now (10'x2.5' footprint) would be the easiest way to get it into the house in one piece... I can put the other half in storage for when I move, if I move in a few years and the house allows I could easily make it back to a 20' tank.... but as for now if I just turn this into a 10' tank that should be a good footprint for about 6 cichla wouldn't it? the gallons would one be about 370 but with a large sump i can bump up the water volume. 10x2.5 would be 27.5sq foot of swimming area?
