The Worst Escapes

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
About a month ago my giant millipede somehow escaped, just found him a couple days ago, well...part of him.
Back several years ago my RES got into the habit of trying to climb out of the tank and he did several times, most of the time he ended up in my sister's room and basked under her skylight. He also must have had a run in with one of the cats because a chunk of his shell was missing for awhile. At least he didn't fall down the stairs.
And lastly, just over a year ago I was asleep when I felt something move over my legs. I woke up and squinted, my glasses were not on but I knew it was no cat. At the same time we had a hole in the ceiling...I thought it was squirrel, I kicked it off the bed and into the dresser and watched it scamper under the bed. I woke up my GF and said "There's something alive in the room, get out of the bed". She jumped onto the floor telling me I was nuts, then she felt a bite. We both freaked out and ran outta the room and slammed the door. We sat on the couch awhile...collecting ourselves when we noticed the ferret cage was open. :)

yeah, where in the world do you get a net gun?

I made it, with advice from my brilliant engineer of a brother. I used lots of pvc and some old cast nets. I have several designs, one with compressed air, one with 4 springs, one that's like a weird bolo that's flung from a machine. Just one of my fun projects with my brother. I use the compressed air one the most, bbut generally I use more conventional tools, altjough some of my tools are pretty inventive. I can list them if you want.

My Salvator Cumingi escaped its cage once, this was when I had most of the monitors on the patio, she was under the neighbors trailer about 50 yards away. Thank god his kid was able to come get me when he found her!

I had a russian dwarf hamster that we called doctor. He lived in a metal cage and he could push his food dish over to the other side of the cage, Dr. then would push open the latched door.

Dr. was able to get down off the table and also down 2 flights of stairs and outside and into an applejuice jar. it rained that alot that night and he drowned. I had him for over 2 years.

These are some interesting stories, haha.

I have OCD with certain things so i have never had an escape in my 10 years keeping herps.

One of my old female geckos got out the terrarium and laid eggs somewhere in my room. That was a real shock, finding 2 baby giant day geckos hanging on the ceiling.....Capture was not fun....
