Yeah it must be what happened because an extension cord can only supply power to so many things before it has to much power going through it and it heats up, also I work with glass and it looks like the glass got semi tempered from the heat but broke that's why it's in so many pieces.

Ironically we would have been better off leaving the tanks off until power came back.. it was a desparate attempt to keep everyone safe that caused them to die..:(

so do you have power back yet and do all of the other tanks seem to be ok still? again you have my deepest sympathy. we all know how much you cared for those pacu. like everyone said. it could have been much worse.

yes power is restored and so far all the other fish seem okay..i find it surprising that they withstood all the toxic smoke.. i am still concerned with that and time will tell.. thank you so much you and everyone for your thoughtful replies.. i am sitting here numb and disorganized and though i have not slept i have had a chance to get my feelings out.. gave me alot of comfort talking to other fish folks.. no non-fish people could understand..our dedication to monster fish and all the others.

Does anyone have any idea whether the smoke that filled the room will have any effect on my fish later.. should i prepare myself ..:irked:They all seem like they are acting normal..even hungary..i did not feed today.. did not want to give them anything since they have been through so much stress.

I'd do 50% water changes on all of them and keep a good eye on them. I wouldn't think it should affect them too badly.

That sounds like hope!!!thanks

Wow, Liz...I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. I hope everything works out.

Not sure about the dimension of ur cable but. Im working with **** like this. And as longer the cable is the slower the fuse is to brake. So u should never put like a 100m extension cable in ur normal plug (depending on fuses, cable area and stuff. If its a 1,5mm3 cable the mat output is 10Amps but if u put loads of extention cables on u can prob get like 20Amps and that will make the plastic around the cable to melt thats where u get ur smoke and weird smell.. Lucky ur house didnt brun down.. But i dont know what i would do if this happend..

Sorry about your loss Liz. From the pics it looks like the fire was right under the tank. The tank failed probably because it experienced thermal shock from the heat. It just needed a small crack before the whole tank would burst because of the weight of the water. The explosion you heard was probably from the tank bursting.

i would have to agree now that i am able to focus more.. it makes more sense then the 220gal deciding to explode the same night i am going through all the other problems.. it had to be this way.. thanks
