Not sure about the dimension of ur cable but. Im working with **** like this. And as longer the cable is the slower the fuse is to brake. So u should never put like a 100m extension cable in ur normal plug (depending on fuses, cable area and stuff. If its a 1,5mm3 cable the mat output is 10Amps but if u put loads of extention cables on u can prob get like 20Amps and that will make the plastic around the cable to melt thats where u get ur smoke and weird smell.. Lucky ur house didnt brun down.. But i dont know what i would do if this happend..

Just tried to keep those tanks running.. never thinking there would be too much on one circuit.. but we will improve everything in time..i will have new extentions cables and plenty of circuit breakers and bigger generator ..what ever it takes..i will never go through something like this again if i can help it..The room itself is safe, all new electric and breakers etc.. it is the generator that was hooked up on too many cords..

THATSSSSSSS HORRRRRRRRIBLE...i can tell by all the posts u made of ur gentle monsters that you really had a love for them...at least be happy that u know that they were cared for properly and were loved while here...thats seriously so sad to hear...:( :( :( :( ...WOW

Sorry to hear this i can only imagine waht you are going through. I know how it is to lose a fish you love even though i havent had any for eight years ive had some for 3 or so and it would kill me to lose those guys. They become part of your family just like a dog would be to most people you just cant pet a fish most of the time. I hope all goes better now. On a side note i do some water changes once you get situated and have the energy.

Thank you again everyone.. it is going to be an awful project getting the 220gal out.. i have to go bury the pacu ..rip pacu ..thats the only part that hurts so bad..all the rest is just work and money ..but i will miss my pacu's..i have been watching them for 8 years .. and to not see them again gives me grief.. i wish one had made it.. at least the african made it though.. he is now in with the frontosa because it is so peaceful there and when he is feeling better i will try him in the african 125gal tank.. that little guy amazes me.. and i cannot believe my husband was able to find him in the dark with just a flashlight and smoke all around..

I just told my hubby to stop cleaning the room.. the room will get done in time and get some sleep so he and i can do lots of water changes later..to save his energy..so funny you said the same thing.. thanks

Thanks Davo.. appreciate your kindness

Hey Liz, another side note. With your husband working so hard to save the fish I'm sure he was breathing a fair amount of smoke. A trip to the Doc may be wise, just to check for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Also the fire could also have started from moisture on the cord end. I have seen my fair share of extension cords the burn up because of moisture. What happens is moisture between the prongs creates a path for electricity to arc. The arcing will heat the rubber causing it to burn.
