I'm going to wait and see how hard raising the (possible) fry are before I shell out money for fish to bloat and die on me.

Remember why beani faded out of the hobby in the first place?

First we need male and female (probable)
Then they have to breed (possible, but can be deadly)
Then the fry have to make it to a sellable and shippable size (impossible?)

Don't count the eggs before they're even laid!

Have a little more faith in Gary and Gani . . . .they aren't new to this hobby. If anyone can pull this off, they can. :headbang2

Even the best of keepers lose fish, everyone does. i'm personally with MM on this one. i would love to see this work out, but i am very skeptical. beani are known for being extremely aggresive fish. and breeding is when fish are at the top of there game aggresion wise.

i have my fingers crossed, but losely at that.

Gani..... I'm not sure why those guys decided to fart in your soup bowl but I think/hope you'll do well! I have a 200 gallon tank for you to use should you need something to house a pair.

MM,

You are right about this. I don't even know if I have a male or female.

Second, it took me alot effort to raise them to the size they are. These two survived so many rounds of medication.

Third, breeding was diasterous for the first attempt cuz I assumed they were a pair.

People, we will have to see. If they do breed, everyone will have a chance to get some frys'. I am more comfortable having them under my care since I raised them from day one.

This is amazing, but you might want to see if you can get in touch with Rusty Wessel as he is the mastermind behind this:

If you can get them breeding that would be amazing. I personally don't want any of the fry, but just to have something like this happen for the hobby is amazing.

The title of the thread says 'hope,' not 'we have re-established the species already.'

Am deffinately excited and actually hopped up and down a bit ... yes old men are strange. At the same time, it's good to take a wait and see attitude. The divider should handle the aggression, but beani are well known for rather fighting than breeding.

Plus are supposed to be (and Polomax confirmed) delicate when young.

But make no mistake, deffinately a happy and hopefull occasion, worthy of breaking open my aged scotch for the OP and the hobby in general.
