Thinbar/NTT or ....?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I doubt that they are farmed unfortunately though some claim that they are.I would suggest a good deworming.
Yeah still zero proof of them captive breeding these. Other than the place breeding pulchers even they can’t get the other dats to breed apparently but I will say this there’s been plenty of monster dats harvested from the wild like never before and plenty of babies this year harvested to. A ton of sorting too.

But I was going to treat that whole tank anyway with praziquantel as a preventive measure for the 3 new fish, so will do that in the next day or two -- what is your preferred de-worming process for your Dats if I may ask?
Interesting info on the subject of farm breeding,I rather agree with Funwow however.
.....as for treating your thinbar I have used prazi as well as copper based medications and oddly,I have only had problems with thinbars having parasite problems.

Don’t these fish get big enough to hand breed like salmon or koi? I’ve always wondered why more exotics aren’t simply injected with hormones and squeezed to extract eggs and milt. Is it harder with exotics than cold water species? What am I not getting?

Good question. It has been said that pulchers are being bred on a small scale and that might be one of the tactics used to accomplish the breeding.

Quite a bit of debate about this online, but nothing in the way of proof either way it seems. While I'm not saying it's impossible, without further proof I'm now in the doubters camp.

I was at Chatuchak aquarium market the other day while in BKK; I was kinda in a hurry and didn't notice anyone selling Dats but I did meet up with a friend, a breeder from Qian Hu's
Thailand farm. When I asked him why Qian Hu, one of the world's largest exporters of aquarium fish, doesn't breed/sell Dats, he basically said it was just too hard/low success rate (and thus probably not cost effective).

Interesting.

Indo Dats have increase price by 8 times this year as compared to last year....

look at the smaller shops inside rather than those by the road

Though of course it's possible I missed some, there's just so many side alleys and shops around Chatuchak, I was all over a good portion yesterday and didn't come across any Dats for sale. Wasn't looking to buy as I only want to keep one, just curious to see what they say when I asked about the origins of their Dats and whether or not if they know anyone is breeding them or only wild caught.
