think i may restock...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LBF, seriously. If you get these new fish I will guarantee that another one of these threads will pop up in a few weeks where you want to change your stock again, can't fill your tank up all the way, can't do water changes, the list goes on.

You are taking away 2 big fish and replacing with 3 medium sized fish and more smaller ones.
Do you honestly think you are going to be cleaning your filter less???
Or you will need to do less water changes??

A dirty filter means it is doing it's job, it would be a crap filter if it didn't need cleaning. LBF, I like you. You get a bit muddled with life and it gets on top of you easy but seriously. You need to get a grip on your life and realise that you can't maintain such a large tank like it needs to be maintained.

You only have 2 oscars and 2 or 3 small-medium sized fish and you are complaining that it is too much for you and you can't provide the appropriate care for them. And the oscars aren't even full grown yet, they are only about half way if I remember correctly.

Serisouly, get a hold of yourself and have a good think about the appropriate care fish need and the care you can provide because from what I have seen you write on this forum in the last few months is verging on cruelty and that is if it isn't actually in that area already.

Sorry LBF, but I wouldn't be doing the responsible thing if I didn't warn you that you are verging on cruelty going off what you have written over the last few months.

thing is i also love my other fish to. i just dont know which ones to actually keep. i want whats best for my fish! cant up the w/c right now or ill get yelled at ( which really irritates me! )
If you can't keep up with your WC now, you will have more problems with the stock that you want. They are going to require adequate WC. The Giant Danios love the top water column, you'll need to fill the tank to keep them happy. I don't know how full your 110 is but if you keep it half full you'll need to do even more water changes with the size of your wanted stock. Those cichlids really need space and regular water changes. I hope you can figure something out. Good luck to you.

u should get rid of the oscars i had one to a loong time ago and i do miss mine but i loove the cichlids i have now....

so then i should go with 1 oscar instead of 2 right? ( welll still maintaining my tank at its best or my best )

Thats right, you don't do less maintenance by increasing the number of fish in the tank like you were planning at the start of this thread.
Just cut back your stock and enjoy what you have, let them grow up under your care.
Less fish will mean you can get away with going to fortnightly water changes rather than weekly, easing the burden on your already stressful life. At the moment your tank really need weekly waterchanges but I know you said you can't do weekly because you aren't allowed.

Keep everything else, just cut an oscar back. You have been doing this long enough to know what to do with fish like these. Cut back until you hit the appropriate stocking.

Also if you can't fill the tank to capacity you should really be trying to get away from the mass waste producers and high bodied fish. If the water level is still low then you should maybe be looking at rams, firemouths, rainbow cichlids, acaras, etc. Small/medium fish that are not too tall when fully grown.
I would also stay away from the more expensive and good water quality demanding fish such as pike cichlids, certain dwarf cichlids, EBJD, etc. Your maintenance regime is slack at best so these fish would ultimately suffer and die under your charge.

What will your stocking be if you remove 1 oscar?

I would remove:

1 oscar
1 JD
the texas hybrid

Roughly, dont know tank specs i used 60x24x18 to get 112g, 18 gallons missing from a 110 (5ft long) gallon tank that is immediately short of approx 20-30% of the water volume due to fish mass and decor. So you have approx 65 gallons left at roughly 30% (27g) gone from the tank due to fish and decor.

I would maybe even consider removing the last JD at that sort of water volume. Most people recommend 75g alone for 1 oscar, maybe a pleco or catfish as company but nothing significant.
