Thinking about discus...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wow, kind of sorry I posted. did'nt mean to start a war. the one thing I have found in discus keeping is that there are a lot of myths and old truths that need to be changed. I have wanted discus for the longest time but was afraid because they were so " difficult ". when I designed my tank it was going to be for angels. then I went to simplydisus.com and really started to learn about these fish. my tank is my first try with discus. I am in no way an expert, but I did my homework before I started and that is what needs to be done. discus are not a fish to just jump into, but they are not as hard as some would have you believe.

First of all I use rain water and spring and tab water mix .Second I use alot of different sites .Yes I know I have domestic fish. Some of those stunted ones you you see .I just traded in some of blue diamonds for some smaller fish that I got about three inches long and have had a couple months.Wow you are going to use a hybrid and compare that to mixing Discus .I hope on your site someone is doing the writing for you. Everything you have wrote has words like that one one up there "menans" Guess what you are also on the internet. With a name like Rod I now understand .Tell me then what water chemistry you use for your Discus .

One thing about it 3dees I never meant to insult you ,I believe when I stated you fish were ok I quickly came back an said they they were beauitful.I also said when I thought they were small,I said that I really didn't know that and that I was judging by a picture.

Heres one and ones she made. Before you start in in they are no longer in the same tank.

View attachment 700486View attachment 700485buy small or buy large. all I was saying is that there is more care required for small discus. I have wilds in a PH of 7.6. it's a show tank and I have no interest in breeding. if I did then I would use RO. what I'm getting at is for keeping discus, they will adjust to most water. there are many people breeding domestics in PH as high as 8.6. take a look at simplydiscus.com. all the info you will ever need. by the way, my tank has been running for 15 months. wc's are with tap water and Prime. RO water is certainly good for discus, but not a must. don't think my fish look bad for not playing by the "rules".

This Discus on top might be the nicest, most unique specimen I've ever seen. Great work 3dees I hope their still alive and well

thanks bass hole. I'm not going to get involved in this silly arguement again, but since you asked, my fish are still with me getting more colorful by the day.

what ever i like pepperlng and it is no big deal for pb or red discus stress can cause this but in this case it is the dark back ground . 6.5 ph co2 system for plant .water is rain water mixed with distilled and some tapp partial water changes weekly .you may not like like my fish but i can tell you they are heatlhy and pampered.they mostly eat blood worm they are active never hide.people today consider peppering a low grade fish andare breeding it out of the breed but it does not mean it is raised bably or un heathly.

Lol just read this thread. doctor horn if you knew as much about discus as you think you did then you would know the pics you posted of the blue discus...your "Blue Diamonds" are actually Cobalts. Blue Diamonds do not have stress bars they are a mutated gene like the pigeon that the fish develops without a stress bar. Although with pigeons peppering is the stress bar.
You have alot of stunted fish in your tank. Which actually proves the point everyone is trying to make on starting out with adults.

i will point out your many flaws so everyone knows you have no clue about discus

you pointed out your fish are pampered yet you do 1 water change a week on only feeds bloodworms. poor diet poor water change amount.
you claim your fish are only a few months old so they possibly cant be stunt. WRONG they can be stunt and you wont even know due to your lack of knowledge.
you claim theyre only a few months old and you only do 1 water change a week and only feed blood worms? NO WONDER THEYRE STUNT!
you claim the pictures are of different groups. they look the same to me.
you talk about how your fish are out happy and healthy yet theres stress bars on one of them clear as day -.-
