Thinking of a doing a Fahaka setup.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Regrettably I went another route with my fahaka tank... So no Odeo. I had 3-4 totally different stocking lists/decor set ups in mind and one was the African river like yours. But I really love South/Central American cichlids so I have a bit of a cultural mishmash in my tank. Yeah sorry I forgot all Channa are illegal in the US.. Your tank sounds like it will be beautiful with those small colourful African cichlids... So maybe stay away from the Odeo as he will eat them all lol!

After much deliberation my Fahaka is in a 220g with an Oscar, Atabapo red pike cichlid, 2 syno Decorus, Frontosa cichlid and a golden cobra snakehead (I know! But I need to try it as they are 2nd Gen tank bred).

Keep us update as i love fahaka comm tanks

Will do. The jewels come in tomorrow and I'll post fresh pics.

Awesome looking set up there, looking forward to seeing how it progresses.
Thank you Hoplo. Will update soon.

The jewels came in and they are very active. The puffer isn't even thinking of them as a meal. The Kribs and jewels can be right next to him and he doesn't even give them one thought. Instead, he seems to have gotten really shy and has been lurking in the back hiding behind a rock. It's almost as if they are making him more spooked.

Very weird. Hopefully he will be back to his old self tomorrow morning.

From past experience, my fahaka used to be cool with her tankmates except under the following conditions:

1. A tankmate tries to steal the food shes eating...

2. A tankmate pestered her constantly for her spot...

3. She got really hungry (after going through random hunger strike) and would take opportunistic shots at tank mates...

4. She just decided one day she didn't like a resident in the tank...

-Edit-

I should add that puffers arent stupid, and i used to tap on the glass, and wave my finger at her when i would see her targeting a tank mate and she would stop...

After a while i just had to point and wave my finger for her to know not to do something..,

Amazing that they can be trained to understand a finger motion. Thanks for the tips!

Another cracking looking tank.
Love the puffer.i kept one of these years ago and often want to try one again.
You have just resparked that thought.

Thanks Stanzzz. This is my first Fahaka. My only experience with them are the dwarf pea puffers I had years back.

I will update soon.

Yeah, Fahaka's and MBU's from what i've seen and heard live up to the reputation as true freshwater puppies of the F/W world...

Also as they get to know you, they'll greet you every time, which is a nice change...
