Iit will either open from the side, or it will be a split pane in the front. The top will most likely be screen

If the tops just screen then your looking at basking lamps on top which Im very tired of.They can get knocked off to easy and the screen top will let alot of humidity go.I would do the wood top,sink a ceramic fixture with the basking bulb and make sure to screen the bulb off so no herp bulb contact will be made.You can install like air conditioning vents and such into the sides,you dont want it to dry up fast inside but you also dont want it to become stagnant from too much humidity.You could still make doors into the sides but not too big to loose stability if opened.I would go with the split front glass,you can get a safety lock and its just way easy to clean and get to the reptile without problems.
vents like these but size them to your pleasure,lol,well you know,for the type of snake you end up with you want to then try to get the humidity and temp under control before you buy it.Ive yet to make my own cage so hopefully someone else might have some ideas,Im just getting ready to do this also.more of a rack type though.

yes I would not go down the heat lamps on top thing trust me its a pain in the butt I would wire lights in its rather easy and cheap and if you google it you can figure it all out in a matter of minutes that will cost you about 40 bucks for three lights with switches

no not just one vent,,,,,I think the one on the cage in that pic are too small,depends on how much humidity you need to keep in thier and that will depend on the snake.Personaly I would have one on each 2 sides for some air flow,your water is going to rais the humidity like crazy.Installing the vents will be easy,figure out the snake first.
