Thinking of Upgrading and Kinda Broke. Need Halps/Ideas.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got a 250, 210, 100, and 75 off CL over the last couple of years. There were other deals I had to pass on because of financial constraints. I would guess new those tanks would cost around $3500 total, but I think I spent around $1000 and got some freebies with the purchases as well. Some canisters, wet dry filter, air pumps, etc...Of course the tanks aren't perfect but I am cheaper than I am picky. As mentioned above, once you get over the 125/150 gallon range and into 1/2 glass the weight of a glass tank is substantial, so acrylic would be the way to go if a move is likely.

She live in Southern CA, that's mean quite impossible for her to net a good looking acrylic tank for cheap, folks there CAMP Craiglist for LIVING LOL
Too true. The minute a cheap tank gets put up, you can bet a dozen people are flagging it to get the posting down and heading over with cash in hand so that they can flip it for double the price.

It seems like I will be able to find a used glass one no problem but a used acrylic seems to be gone the second the ad gets posted and I have the time to sit down and email or call them about it. Or they are asking absurd amounts for it in which case I would rather have it new. I saw like a 60 gallon basic petco setup for 600 bucks. Ugh.

But yeah perhaps I should just drag some of my friends down here from oc to help me pick something up in case of glass. I did see a 100 gallon in pacific beach posted for free but it looked extremely beat up and no stand. Plus I want BIGGER. NEED MORE GALLONS. MOOOARRRR! Plus it's probably gone. Meh.

All my tanks came I got from Craigslist. My latest is my 135gallon that I got for $200. Take your time and don't rush. A deal will come through. I also get beat when I'm see a good deal but the last time it was just my luck. When I was still renting I too dreamed of having a big tank but space was a problem so I just decided I'll wait till I buy a house. It'll save you the hassle and headaches of moving them. Now I own my home, my problem is I want an even bigger tank like a 210g. If it was me I'll save and wait till you find a bigger place so it won't feel so crowed

Hmmm true. Good point. I suppose I could have the fiance's dad reseal the 90 for me if he has the time for now. Just the backyard here isn't big enough for a workspace to do that. I can cram the fish in buckets or small tanks for a week. I do wish the place was bigger but if the tank takes the entire wall I don't really mind. :p

Just the salvini pair has been turning beastly in there. Worried about the safety of the other fish once my male salvini gets huge. He is already beefy (thankfully he isn't too smart, and gives up quick to go tail slap the female and annoy her, or admire his own reflection, he will sit there and get mad at himself literally 30x a day at least, pretty funny). Mainly I'm worried for stumpy since he can't outrun them that easily like the dithers do. The mama seems harmless as far as teeth, but she's fast for being a big pudge butt and tries to beat the others occasionally. They would be better with bigger territories. Had to already make a divider for when babies show up. All the babies got eaten over my trip though, they fit through the divider holes. A few of my dithers looked quite plump. Oops.
