thats why i like to fish in secluded little spots on rivers. I hate dealing with other people if at all possible.

but thats just me. sorry you had a crappy experience with those guys. Your bound to run into cretins like that once in a while unfortunately.

yeah something similar happened with me except the guy lost his cast net on the pillings and then latter some random guy came up and just started casting right in front of us. Oh yeah and a pelican stole half of our sqyuid pier fishinmg is rough.

I find that disgusting and total disregard for life. I go fishing and eat fish so not PETA follower but to kill like that for sake of killing is disgusting.

Months ago I was fishing by the beach and some elderly guy caught 2 brown baby sharks within the hour .
I don't know much about sharks not sure what type.

He cut them open through belly and threw them back in water .

Great to hear you won't kill the fish you catch, Bud! Why on earth do people do such things, is beyond me!

lol I have killed a few as have eaten them but they were saltwater fish. I know what you mean about killing for sake of it .

Few months a yr there are Peacock bass that breed in the areas in shallow water.
I caught a few before breeding season than stopped fishing in area to let them breed.
Some catch them and eat them during breeding season which is wrong IMO as now eggs are unguarded and the sunfish.etc eat them all.

6 mating pairs were caught and removed 2 months ago in my area lake which is a shame. Soft shell turtles they will also kill .

I actually avoid Peacock bass now at all cost as only interested in little cichlids .

I rarely keep a fish for a meal. You can buy farmed fish at a store cheap. We live in a world where food is relatively cheap, there is no need to rape the lakes, rivers, and oceans. I see people all the time fishing off of local piers, keeping EVERTHING that they catch. Ot always pisses me off. You can get a job making minimum wage and earn more food than you can catch from a local lake.

i haven't kept a fish for food in years, just don't see the point since i can't cook fish well. killing fish just to kill them pisses me off, luckily i've never seen it happen in person.

As a whole I agree but I have kept red snapper .
Yes I can buy it but isn't it the same as someone else catching it for me and packaging it for sale in supermarket?

The non commercial ocean fishermen/woman who abides by the law and keeps fish now and than .
I doubt puts the tiniest dent in saltwater fish population.

yesterday i went into a fish market with my dad just to look at the fish. we saw Stripers that were about 20'' and Porgies about 9''. WAY to small. There were Fluke that were too small. There was the head of a Patagonian Toothfish, and...what pisses me off big time...Scrod. Scrod is baby Cod. These fish never get to breed once and never pass on their genes. Whiting about 8'' but IDK the regulations on Hake (EG Whiting)
On party boats people keep Skate, Smoothhound and lots of shorts. I remember being about 9 on one of those boats and seeing a few Asian Men keeping short Fluke (Summer Flounder) and when they got to the dock they spotted DEC officers. In to the bay go the dead shorts. Luckily they were caught. The most illegally kept fish up here is Bluefish. I think the NY limit is only 8 fish under 8''long. people fish with herring sabiki rigs and get half that much per cast. people keep tiny little cunners, anchovies, cocktail bluefish 4 inches long, etc and it makes me mad because there is no use for 3'' anchovies!

farmed fish aren't any better for the environment; they spread disease throughout the wild populations. if they are farmed in enclosed pools (like shrimp in asia) then the water is usually putrid. so there really isn't an easy answer other than educating the consumer.

I used to live in Long Island I have gone monster blue fishing from party boat's that leave from freeport .

Next time I go to area lake will look around and see if any beheaded softshell turtle's and will take a pic . It seem's if caught they are beheaded .

I know it isn't an alligator as head is chopped off . During pre peacock breeding season found 8 in one day. Fishermen hate them but thankfully not many here fish so what is not killed reproduces.

I don't fish that particular lake anymore as only bass and not interested plus a gator was spotted not big like 2 feet but big enough for me .. The turtles ignore lures so whoever did that had to be using hook and bait
